Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 Dunning Kruger Effect. Wait wait The Expos played a lot of home games in Puerto Rico. That means Puerto Rico's only ever MLB team won as well! Tons of firsts tonight
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 Always special when an older team wins the championship.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 Lerner just flashed the money sign to Rendon.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 Glad to see another canadian team win the world series Like Montreal is in Canada
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 Strasburg.... the right choice
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 Should have been Co-MVPs with Soto but fully deserved for Stras.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 It's clear to me that a winning business plan will be dropshipping some China-made Expos 2019 World Series Champs ripoff hats to desperate Canadians.

Yes, because the connection between Montreal and the Nats is strong and deep.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 Won 70 bucks on a fiver for straus winning mvp
Beans Verified Member Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 (edited) These 2019 Nationals and all their camaraderie and dancing and celebrating every little thing with smiles and hugs, actually reminds me of the 2011 World Series Cardinals and their 'happy-flight' clubhouse mantra. Beans Verified Member Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 Pedro Martinez just congratulated Montreal and Canada on MLB Network and mentioned the Expos legacy... so there, nyah!
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 I have a feeling that *Grienke look on the bench* is a meme spreading like wildfire on the interwebs, lol.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 Harper's "bring a title back to DC" slip up is going to have some momentum in the next few days.
Beans Verified Member Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 Pedro knows! Vasgersian brought up the Expos too, seconds after they clinched the title. "Santa Maria!"
TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 Well that didn't take long.... he is such an ass. This off season will be fun. Could be better if Strasburg opts out
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 When the Ravens won the Superbowl they still had Browns players on the Team and the same owner and No one said the Cleveland Browns won the Superbowl. However, guys who are so desperate to find something to waive the flag about, even if it is has the Fluer de le and not the Maple Leaf on it, thinks this is a great moment for Montreal and Canada. Here is a good article about the Browns, Ravens and Colts. One of the first guys in the comments section makes a great point also. https://www.dawgsbynature.com/2017/12/15/16779036/browns-only-super-bowl-win-2000-ravens-season
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 Pedro knows! Vasgersian brought up the Expos too, seconds after they clinched the title. All I heard in relation to this team was how many years since the Senators and finally Washington has another WS X amount of years later. The context was that Washington had finally won another WS.. References to the Expos were as a statement the team used to be the Expos. No one is debating that. What we are debating is that a team from one city in Canada from 2004 has anything to do with the 2019 WS Champions in Washington, DC.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 My thing about the Expos, and I was a big fan who travelled every year for games, is that Montreal never takes any blame for the team leaving. It was the MLB, it was the owners, it was the stadium. The fans allowed mismanagement, language politics happen by not caring about the team. This includes the early 90's Montreal doesn't deserve a baseball team and if they get one it will fail within 10 years

Ray Verified Member Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 he is such an ass. This off season will be fun. Could be better if Strasburg opts out Strasburg is very likely to opt-out, if only to get a couple more years tacked on to his current deal. He has 4 years/$100M left. Any team would give him more given he's only 30. Looking over his career stats, he's actually put together a very good career thus far. 112-58, 3.17 ERA, 2.96 FIP, 2.4 BB/9, 10.6 K/9, 36.7 bWAR. The hype for him as a prospect was absurd so that's probably why he goes unnoticed, but he could put together a HoF case in the upcoming years.

He's actually 31 and just put together his first full healthy season in 5 years. He'd get more than 4/$100m, that's for sure, but he won't get Cole money. Edited October 31, 2019 by Beans

Could be better if Strasburg opts out This article says he even put on a Boras hat! https://www.getmoresports.com/astros-news-gerrit-cole-odd-behavior-following-world-series/ Savage move. That said, I would give up something of great value for the Jays to sign this guy up. One can dream.

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 Nats losing their franchise player in the off-season, getting in as a wildcard then beating both the best teams in the NL and AL on their way to the title is going to go down as one of the all time great playoff stories!
