It's been a bit of a frustrating rookie year for vlad, disappointing.

Similar to Miguel Cabrera's rookie year... but frustrating in the sense that many other rookies and young players have taken the league by storm.

Ironically Shapiro and Atikins may have had a good argument for keeping him down for another month or two this year. They repeatedly said he wasn't ready, on defense and conditioning and no one believed them.

I tend to not believe that there is any "magical" type that won't perform in the majors as well as his minor league numbers indicate. However if there is it's Vlad. A slow ground ball hitter wouldn't perform as well against major league defense, shifts and analytics.

Broken record, but if he fixes the conditioning and launch angle he's still a star... so fix the goddamn conditioning and launch angle.

Latest injury is 100% conditioning... they say it was his ribs... he looked terrible running to second then did a whale flop, 260 pounds flopping on the ribs can't be good.

2nd worst teenage season in the expansion era for all qualified players

All because of his defense and baserunning which everyone knows is still developing. His bat is not even close to 2nd worst by a teenager and that's why he was called up - to learn to hit major league pitching. His poor defense and baserunning was going to be worked on the same way regardless of what level he was at. Hopefully next year he shows some improvement

Agree with everything here.

According to Mike Wilner, Vlad should be fighting with Yordan Alvarez for RoY.

Developing is quite the euphemism here.

His base running had damn well better improve even if his defense doesn't. That whale flop yesterday was disgusting

He has a worse UBR than Albert Pujols, and he’s certainly not slower. You have to think he could improve his decision making on the bases, even if he stays fat as f***.

What are the odds you guys feel that he actually makes an effort to lose some weight over the offseason. is the FO pushing it hard?

I believe he will be going back to the dominican for drinking, and eating non stop.

He might come back 20 lbs heavier.

There is no hope when grandma cooks for him

I don't know how anyone can listen to him and not die from cringe.

I think his struggles in the 2nd half will be good motivation, and are probably the best thing that could have happened to him. We'll have to see how he chooses to use them.

Would it not make sense to actually start the younger starters like Kay and Zeuch to actually see how they handle facing the top part of team's line ups three times through?

If course it would

Using an opener for Kay against one of the worst teams ever is a joke. If he's a SP you trust beyond 2019, then start him.

Especially cause he still came in to face the top of the lineup
