I get it, but Fisher's defense is so bad that there is no way his offense would be able to compensate for it. Horrible valuation on the Blue Jays part.

Yeah, I don't see how they can use him out there going forward and he's not gonna be good enough to DH.

With all the hype I've heard about Atkins, I haven't really been all that impressed with what I've seen. The draftings been good, but he seems to have a lot of problems with the trade market.

You should watch the game...1 AB. That's it lmao

It's been more than 1 at bat buddy. When there was 2 guys on earlier he swung at 3 straight pitches well out of the zone and he was just hacking away last at bat at some terrible pitches.

I haven't seen the game today, but in previous games it really looks to me like he isn't seeing the ball in the outfield as opposed to just being bad. If I'm the Jays, I'm insisting on a very comprehensive eye exam after the season.

If you're going to gamble on a trade, the player you're receiving has to be able to play decent defensively with his bat holding the bulk of the lottery aspect, imo.

So we should be acquiring Ryan Goins types yes?

Do I really have to go over it? Go down the list. Happ, Donaldson, Pillar, trading away Urshella for cash ETC

Lol @ the Urshela one. One of the worst players in baseball was given away and randomly turned into a star, if you can find one person criticizing that move at the time I'll be very impressed.

The Happ deal was bad, sure. The Donaldson situation was botched but didn't help that he was injured the entire year. Pillar is whatever dude lol, nice player who wasn't going to be a part of the team going forward.

Ehhh, it looks to me like he just takes terrible routes. It's a hard thing to quantify, but some guys just can't get a grip on it. He reminds me when the Jays tried using Jose Canseco in the field in the season during the late 90's

Dont forget Dwight Smith Jr. He's having a decent season for Baltimore

I realize he wasn't going to play a part going forward, but why just give him away? I'd add in the Martin trade in there as well. It's just a bad management of assets.

Smith has produced -0.9 WAR in fewer at bats than Drury has used to produce -0.6 WAR. Let that sink in a little.

He is on course for a 20/80/.240/.700OPS season. I didnt say it was good, I said it was decent

I am looking at the FA list and possible trade options and can't think of a single CF the Jays could sign or realistically trade for that could help this team for the next few years. Dyson would be a decent one year stopgap but that's about it. They really need a CF who can be around for a few years. Would the Braves move Inciarte? Between Fisher, Teoscar, McKinney, Pearce, etc, I'm not sure I want Atkins to sign or trade for a OF unless the player is established. I don't know why this regime has disregarded defence so much, especially in the OF. I understand they didn't have to give up much to get a lot of those guys, but maybe there was a reason for that.

I'd be inclined to just go with Alford and Fisher and hope one of them takes it and rolls with it. Provided they figure out what the hell is wrong with Fisher, both SHOULD be plus defenders. Barring that, just put Grichuk out there. He's not great, but he is steady.

I would send the Teoscar to the Dominican League this winter. Make him learn how to play the centrefield

I think I'd rather talk up Teoscar's second half with the bat and see if we can trade him. He's walking more and hitting for more power, but he's still striking out close to 40% of the time. Maybe see if we can sign someone like Ozuna in the offseason.

Fisher looks like Teoscar in the outfield. He doesn't read the ball well, poor instincts and judgement. He's never going to be a good defender. Decent speed doesn't make you a great outfielder. Rajai Davis was never a great outfielder either.

I was getting intrigued by Teoscar's post call up numbers (June onwards) but he's regressed back down to a decent level since then (114 wRC+) with some scary high K numbers (35% K%). I think he is what he has shown so far. A streaky power hitter who strikes out a lot and walks a decent amount of times. Maybe a rough sketch of Domingo Santana. That's not going to be very valuable on the trade market.

I tend to agree with your earlier post of just letting Alford play CF everyday next season and pray he turns into even prime Pillar with the bat (85ish wRC+). I think I'd take that over Fisher, Teoscar, and McKinney making my eyes bleed watching them play D.

I get the sense Buchholz is coming back next year. He’s probably going to keep the team in the game most nights and provide some vetrin leadership to a young staff.

They paid basically nothing to get him, so I'm not sure what valuation would make sense to you. Can't really go.below zero.

I did not expect that in 2019 I would be warming up to longtime greaseball Clay Buchholz, but here we are.
