Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 One thing about JPR When he got the money he spent. A few things didnt work out and he was let down by choices But he went for if. AA went for it too These guys are just kicking around the can imo
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 At the very least we should be going after guys like Salazaar and Wood, but you need that second year option.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 Heyman has a rep as a puppet for Boras so probably just noise but it’s something.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 Heyman has a rep as a puppet for Boras so probably just noise but it’s something. Damn I didn't know Ryu was a Boras client too. He really does control the free agent market. Guy has the top 3 names in Rendon, Cole and Strasburg, and also represents Moustakas who got a great deal, Ryu, Keuchel, and Castellanos. That's insane.

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 Isn't that what he has said for the last three years. Hey buddy! Long time. How ya been?
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 Fun Fact....We have 18 mil on the books for 2021 and 4 of that is Tulo...15 mil in 2022. Now that's hilarious.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 That would mean overpaying for a guy. That's pretty much what Free Agency is. Paying more than anyone else is willing to.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 That's pretty much what Free Agency is. Paying more than anyone else is willing to. I'm all for overpaying to get some guys in. 18 million next year without any major arbitration salaries. That's pathetic. Rogers needs to spend some dough.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 Enough with the loser narrative "no player wants to come to a bad team". Do you think the FO is just sitting on their hands with all this? Yeah the Jays had a bad record last year. They also have a reasonable expectation to significantly improve this year and in the following years. As a destination, the Jays have 2015 and 2016 to build off of. They have an owner willing to spend. They even have the Raptors this year if you want to use the "Toronto is a world class sports city" spiel. They have Shapiro's record in Cleveland. Any presentation from the FO to a free agent will show: a. We have a solid core of young players and strong farm to build a contender. b. We have the ability to pay you AND others to come in to accelerate and lengthen the contention window. c. We have a decent track record in Cleveland. d. Toronto is a world class city for reasons A, B, C etc... Don't tell me for a second that the Blue Jays are not a top ten destination in the MLB. It's all on Atkins to communicate that point.

That’s why you overpay to get the best Starter with the lowest chance of bust, Cole. This opportunity is not available every year. $250M/7

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 I believe in this core. Vlad, Bichette, Gurriel, biggio, Pearson. They are all here next year. I make fun of Grichuk, but I think he bounces back to be a 2 win player. The Rays, A's and Twins all made the playoffs without perfect lineups. Go get Ryu. There's a lot cheap high upside arms out there. Lindblom, Walker, Wood, Salazaar, Pineda. You could pick up two of those guys without breaking the bank. Eddie on a one year, Tsutsugo....you could get both without spending a fortune. They could acquire enough talent to have an outside shot this year, and if it doesn't work out sell at the deadline and the payroll commitments would not be long term so you wouldn't jeopardize your ability to sign free agents in the future. Who knows really. They may surprise us and spend some money and get some guys in here. There's still time, but patience isn't really my strong suit...lol

Literally every media article references the challenge of getting guys to come to the Jays. They certainly don't make it sound like the Jays are a top 10 destination. I'm sure for some of the more open minded players Toronto clearly is a top 10 destination. Really any big free agent they are in on should be flown in and taken to a Raptors game and have Masai take him out to dinner. Masai has more Charisma in his left pinky finger than anyone in the Jays organization.
EZe Verified Member Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 They have no appetite for any sort of risk. Good luck with that. Unfortunately I believe you are right. It limits our potential.

Good plan...until he ends up signing with the Raptors.

I'm just stating what's currently on the books for next year...Grichuk Gurriel and Tulo's 4 mil without any big arbitration numbers and bunch of league mins. I'm not saying they won't spend next year, I'm just saying there's a crap ton of room.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 Yup. Get Gerrit Cole here and have Masai show him a good time. Good plan...until he ends up signing with the Raptors. I didn't even mean it as a slight to the people working in the Jays organization. Masai is one of the most charismatic GMs in professional sports.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 That's most opinion, I doubt it either, but zero intention? It's as if you're an employee. If they had any intention they wouldn't cap themselves at around the $100m figure as the elite guys are at least double that. $100m will get you very good, but not what it'll take to get the best of the best done. The writing is on the wall... You just need to not be afraid to read it.

Once the core developes and we start winning though, we should be a realistic destination for top guys again.
John Balkabella Verified Member Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 Would a Ken Giles for Dustin May trade make sense for both teams? Especially if the Dodgers sign a top FA pitcher, could be fair value.
Todd Verified Member Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 I'm doing good. and you. Hopefully by the end of next week this team has three or four new players on it that will get them closer to contention. And one more thing if the jays do end up trading Ken Giles hopefully the jays get more then what Baltimore got for Dylan in his trade,
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 Would a Ken Giles for Dustin May trade make sense for both teams? Especially if the Dodgers sign a top FA pitcher, could be fair value. Pretty much no chance. They'd probably give us Joc for Giles, but that doesn't fit our timeline. Maybe we could get something like Josiah Gray and DJ Peters.
