What's wrong with a 13 year old playing video games in his mom's basement? Or is the insult that because he is a genius he should be at University or something? LOL.

I don't like Shatkins, but I can't blame them for that trade and you can never go wrong with free so I have no problem with the claim seeing as how we need arms, but I laugh at the fan club that thinks Godley is going to have value.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 The worst part about waiver claims are the posters who feel the need to point out that the player is probably going to suck. Like, dude is making less than a million dollars, had literally zero trade value, and made it past multiple teams on waivers. We f***ing know he’s almost certainly going to suck. It doesn’t need to be said. The only thing worth talking about in these moves are the skills that give the player a chance to maybe contribute, even though he probably won’t.
wk680 Verified Member Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 Maybe we can trade for a new pitching coach too? I vote for s***-can Pete and replace with Pedro Martinez. I always like his commentary on TV, so seems like he has excellent insights.

The guys who never had the raw tools and talent but managed to stick around for a long time by tinkering with what they had.

I feel like it's always guys like Pete coaching because guys like Pedro made enough money that the don't need to coach and they can get cushy tv jobs. Edited August 8, 2019 by saskjayfan
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 I laugh at the fan club that thinks Godley is going to have value. He was worth 5.9 WAR between 2017 and 2018. Having a bad year this year, clearly, but he's 29 and has shown recently that he can be a positive contributor. Nothing wrong with thinking he'll be a potential piece for next year.

Just like Jamie Garcia...sometimes when a guy has a dramatic fall and his team gives him away for free there's a reason. Feel free to bump this and gloat if he bounces back.

Feel free to bump this and gloat if he bounces back. Jaime Garcia has never put up as much WAR as Godley put up in 2017, and he was worth 3 total WAR the two seasons before the Jays picked him up. Not saying that Godley will be the staff ace in 2020, just that he's got a solid recent track record so there's reason why you might think he'd be in the mix for a rotation spot next season.

Feel free to keep riding your high horse by stating the obvious though
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 Did you guys know that when you buy a lottery ticket you're probably not going to win?
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 PSA: When you apply for a job, someone else is probably going to get it.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 Don't even bother following the draft, because most of those prospects are going to fail.

Can you get through one post without calling swearing at people you don't agree with. I said, I was perfectly fine with the claim. I thought it was a good thing. I said we need arms. Godley is a guy with velocity trending in the wrong direction and a dramatic decline in his K rate. When you're talking about a guy who walks quite a few batters and the team has given up on him, it's more likely the league is adjusting to him and he probably won't be that good next year. Yes, there is a chance he could bounce back. It's unlikely. Which part of that is untrue. Shoemaker's stuff was never the issue. He got non-tendered because he couldn't stay healthy. I still like the pick up of shoemaker despite his injury this year because I like his stuff and next year could be the year he stays healthy. My god, I wasn't even slighting your hero in my post and you got jumpy. Pot is now legal in Canada, you can find it everywhere.

You've been at it for days now - spewing nonsense in all corners of this board. Opposing opinions based on logic and fact are awesome for this board. You should try that approach.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 Dude - like 4 other people echo'd how idiotic your Garcia comment was. You've been at it for days now - spewing nonsense in all corners of this board. Opposing opinions based on logic and fact are awesome for this board. You should try that approach. What are you talking about? How is the Garcia comment out of line. Garcia was pretty good for several years having a good 2015. He had a couple not so great years in 2016 and 2017. When we signed him and actually paid 10 mil I even thought he could be a bounce back candidate. He was not. How is equating Godley to what happened with Garcia out of line. His team gave him up for free. There's a 10% chance he recaptures what he did in the previous 2 years. If you read my earlier posts I also said the signing wasn't a bad thing. He was free. There's no problem with acquiring a free guy and they need people to eat innings. If they decide to tender him a contract, we're not spending any money anyways so whatever he gets in arbitration isn't going to be a big deal. I just think the people posting his WAR from the previous 2 years are setting themselves up for disappointment. I fully acknowledge most don't have high expectations. Do you? What opinions based on logic and fact have I opposed? I didn't like Shatkins trade deadline. Guess what, there's plenty of people lined up on both sides of that discussion.
