I hope that we can sign Philip Clarke. He was arguably a top 5 catcher in this draft and a would be a huge get in the 9th round.

I’m thinking they would’ve continued to grab seniors in the 9th and 10th round if they are having draft pool issues signing Kendall Williams.

The fact they went after Clarke in the 9th and a HS guy in Puerto Rico for 10th means they likely have all the finances figured out.

I also did the math yesterday. If Kendall Williams signs anywhere between 1.8-2.5 Mill we should be just fine (his slot is @1.4M).

With the 5% overdraft allowance, there should be plenty of money left for Clarke.

He was projected @160 in Baseball America top 500, so if he signs for around 4 to 6th round slot money, it’s definitely within budget.

KW is already signed bud, same goes for Monoah... it's obvious.

Their twitter feed.

I've seen plenty of picks show 'Toronto Blue Jays' on their Twitter profile, and end up not signing. It likely is a foregone conclusion that both are signing, but until that ink is on the contract I'm not getting ahead of myself.

Neither would I. Enjoy yourself once in awhile.

I understand there’s potentially a verbal agreement in place, I’m just saying mathematically everything checks out and everyone seems signable given the 7th and 8th pick senior guys take a massive haircut and a few trimmings in other places (like pick #3).

And just noting that they wouldn’t have went with Clarke and Santiago in 9 & 10 if draft money was an issue at all, which signals to me that Kendall Williams is most likely already a done deal.

Nice thread TL. On a slightly different topic, have the Jays spent the IFA money they traded for, anyone know?

I believe they have ten more days to spend it.

I'm pretty confident that the important picks in this draft will get signed. This isn't the AA regime. Shatkins probably had a pretty good idea who was going to sign before making the picks. Obviously nothing is official until pen to paper, but I think it's a pretty safe bet.

Looks like Braden Halladay will not be signing with the blue jays. Will go to college. Hoping he would sign.

but good for him.

I guess the guys who are questionable to sign outside the first ten rounds are Nate LaRue, Diodatti, Masson, and then Conor Philips?

From where Philips was drafted I'm guessing he's a long shot. Any word on the other guys? Any other hard to sign guys there.

Nate LaRue already confirmed he's going to Auburn.

The kid in the 11th round - Nick Neal - is super interesting. A HS pick taken in the 11th round is typically promising news as the team has a full night to iron out their budget/make calls to targets to get a deal in place. This kid is absolutely massive with plus-plus power upside. He is also very young for the class.

Holy s***.. he's like an offensive tackle.

Kyle Huckaby. Undrafted FA

I'm guessing he's Ken Huckaby's kid but haven't looked into it.

*Edit* He is Ken's son.

Apparently, the Jays were going to draft Parker Noland in the 4th rd (Marlins took him in the 31st). Called him before they picked and offered him $489K. He said no. He wants $750K

This where the Jays need go above the Curve

And lead getting out front and ahead of the curve in Minor league pay and development

Not sure if there is anything preventing them or rules that stop them from exploiting it to the teams advantage .. Drafting or Signing picks as it stands now !

Can they not just say and do this as a Team

Say we will give you this as a amount assigned per the Draft ... X

Then as a Club raise the amounts they pay

Milb players :

Development 1-2 year 80,000 per plus 10

Percent or max percent allowed by employer

To a Education fund or A RRSP type vehicle

Or fund !

Then say increase pay by level and by years of service with the organization as a Jay !

Say 5000 by year , and 10-20,000 by level

Or to the point where a player in AAA makes

Entry level MLB Baseball money or about 20 percent less !

Would this not work around it or be a loop

Hole a team could use or Do ????

Parker Noland

Farragut (Tenn.) HS3B

Notes:

Ht: 6-1 | Wt: 200 | B-T: L-R

Commit/Drafted: Vanderbilt

Scouting Report: Noland helped lead Farragut to a state title in 2019, which is pretty much the expectation at one of the best high school programs in the country. Nick Senzel’s alma mater produces players most every year and Noland, a Vanderbilt signee, is the next in the long line. A lefthanded hitter, Noland has an advanced bat for his age with a consistent approach and average bat speed. He has average power as well. He’s a fringe-average defender at third base with an average arm and he’s a below-average runner. If Noland makes it to Vanderbilt, he’ll likely be a very productive hitter for the Commodores.

It seems like Vanderbilt knows what they’re doing.

We took one of their top pitching recruits and their current catcher, and almost another infielder from them

From what i can find the jays have not spent any of that money. International free agent

So from what i have been reading a lot of the jays draft picks will not be signing but will have to wait and see.
