Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 As always, f*** the Rays. f*** playing the Rays, but pretty much everything about their team and organization given their resources is commendable.

I mean if they were relocated to a decent stadium and an area with baseball fans then I’d agree with you.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 This comment gives me deja vu every time. "the Blue Jays still don't have a hit"

What exactly are you disagreeing with me on? Do you disagree that the Rays are an excellently run organization? I'm well aware that their situation in terms of location is terrible, and the fact that in spite of that they have the smartest people in the business to still create a contender is admirable.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 Waguespack is racking up the swinging strikes.

I take organisation to include everything yes. So stadium, fans and cheap owners.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2019 Author Posted May 27, 2019 Amazing that Oliver Drake keeps getting signed, haha.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 I take organisation to include everything yes. So stadium, fans and cheap owners. The Rays literally can't do anything to generate new fans in Tampa, assuming their marketing division isn't the worst in professional sports. They have no control over their fans, the biggest predictor for getting fans to come to the ballpark is winning, and the Rays are consistently doing that, or building a foundation for future success. "Cheap owners"? I mean yeah I guess, but if the team isn't generating much revenue, which I can't imagine the Rays are, then a top half payroll just isn't in the cards. Not every team is the Yankees, Dodgers and Boston and can afford to throw a bunch of money at their problems and be profitable in down years, at least the Rays' ownership is keen enough to continue to find intelligent people to run their front office.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 Just an observation... To add to our ever constant Sanchez discussion. I am watching on the local network- Rays broadcast. When they were introducing the starting pitchers, the Rays broadcasters were talking about Sanchez.. Basically, a run of the mill pitcher with fastball mid-90s change up etc... The point being, there is zero, perception that Sanchez is or will be cerca 2016... When you listen to the Rogers broadcast, it is like he is still potential ace if not for injuries and he is a top ML pitcher...
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 The lack of plate discipline is so sad...
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 They said his finger nail tore (sounds like it might not have been a blister this time).
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 They said his finger nail tore (sounds like it might not have been a blister this time). Didn't they have to reconstruct his finger nail last year or in the offseason? It's all related I think.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 This makes sense when you consider the fact that Buck and Pat are morons. Plus the Rays also have one of the best crews in the game.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 Didn't they have to reconstruct his finger nail last year or in the offseason? It's all related I think. I don't think so (it should just grow itself back out). They experimented with removing parts of it in the past, but I think that was to combat the blisters.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 They said his finger nail tore (sounds like it might not have been a blister this time). When though..? He was at around 50 pitches after like 2 innings..... Was that because of the finger nail or did that occur after?

Not every team is the Yankees, Dodgers and Boston and can afford to throw a bunch of money at their problems and be profitable in down years, at least the Rays' ownership is keen enough to continue to find intelligent people to run their front office. There’s two different things here. 1. Appreciate the owners can’t do anything about the terrible location and spending money on a new stadium seems a waste when fan attendance isn’t going to improve that much. That’s why they should be relocated. I count this flaw as part of the “organisation” I guess you don’t. 2. Because of the much lower income from gate receipts the Rays get a bigger amount of revenue sharing. You’re right it’s not possible to spend on the level of the big markets, but you’re not correct to say they don’t get much income. Imagine what the front office could do with a bigger budget, when they don’t have to let players leave when they start to become expensive. In conclusion, front office = excellent, management = very good, location = terrible, owners = disappointing, overall organisation grade C- must do better.
Ex Player Verified Member Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 It's not his fault they aren't hitting him hard, just finding ho.es in the defense for s*** singles and a hustle double that was made possible by how slowly it rolled out to the outfield. And then when your defense starts throwing the balll away that just makes it so much more of a clusterf***. Tough way to debut in the MLB I'll admit he's doing well now, even though he has just an average fastball. I'd like to know what his pitching repertoire is
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 When though..? He was at around 50 pitches after like 2 innings..... Was that because of the finger nail or did that occur after? I suspect it happened early on, or possibly while he was warming up. He didn't look right.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2019 Author Posted May 27, 2019 They said his finger nail tore (sounds like it might not have been a blister this time). Doubt it’s unconnected. The way he grips the ball apparently f***s up his finger so I’m not sure there’s anything he can do. He must be so frustrated not being able to pitch properly without reinjury.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2019 Author Posted May 27, 2019 I suspect it happened early on, or possibly while he was warming up. He didn't look right. He missed his last but one start, it’s never really gone away, just keeps reopening.

This makes sense when you consider the fact that Buck and Pat are morons. This is true. At some point, this finger issue may finally give the organization the ability to give up on this guy. It feels like we're obligated to see if he can recapture his 2016 form; however, it certainly appears we'll never see it again. This give them an easy out to try him out of the pen before ultimately trading or cutting him.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2019 Author Posted May 27, 2019 Blister doesn’t really do his finger justice, the original photos show it basically distorts his fingernail. Look how f***ed up it looks after he had part of the fingernail removed. NSFW: http://i.imgur.com/CFsUJem.jpg
Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 update on Sanchez? why did he leave so early. NVM just saw the post before this,

I'd like to know what his pitching repertoire is As Buck said (once in a while he makes an intelligent point) this guy is showing the command with his fastball (which by the way that Sanchez lacks) and that allows him to move it around the strike zone and keep those batters off balance. Seems to be mostly 4SFB, cutter, and curveball although they mentioned he will throw a 2SFB.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 Doubt it’s unconnected. The way he grips the ball apparently f***s up his finger so I’m not sure there’s anything he can do. He must be so frustrated not being able to pitch properly without reinjury. I think it's pretty clear at this point that there's not much use in continuing to try to find ways of dealing with it. He's going to have to change his grip (and possibly fastball type). Maybe Rich Hill will succeed in petitioning baseball to allow him to wear tape on his finger. If that happens, then maybe Sanchez has a shot at keeping his current repertoire.
