The point I was trying to make is that they stuck with him through his struggles in April and then he broke out and hit really well recently, only to be sent down. If we were waiting for his slump to end then it absolutely did.

I think Abomination is right and it may be due to injuries.

Did you just say that Billy McKinney broke out recently??? Respond to my previous post, you absolute f***ing coward!

Hmm I was thinking that "1 poster >>> the forum." crack was Spanky poking fun at me for being the one to go against the forum consensus that intangible stuff which can't be quantified shouldn't be given much weight.

Anyway I agree they shouldn't retain a player just for veteran leadership, but if the player is also still able to be productive (Smoak on pace for 1.5 fWAR this season), then could be worth keeping around. I guess I am not the only one that thinks so, as you may recall Stroman's lamentation on the issue prior to this season:https://sports.yahoo.com/stroman-unhappy-blue-jays-apos-225644362.html

It was all about "veteran presence" concerning my crack towards jimmyc-pun-pun, I agree he should be retained as an asset, not at the numbers you guys have thrown around, somewhere in between, he's worth more to us then trade.

Depends what is offered. Smoak has a hot June, could be a good offer on the table. I don't get your "worth more to us then trade." Guys like Smoak are invariably worth more to a contending team than a rebuilding one.

Unfortunately it's the truth Jim, at least Smoak hits from both sides, and his D is incredible concerning a 1B. If they don't get a fair offer extend him at 12 guaranteed, with impending bonuses at 2 million vesting.

Teams aren't valuing his skill set these days. Smoak is great, no question, but nobody's giving up an asset for a 33YO 1B, even a good one.

A good Switch hitting one can get a bit more, he's worth 12 million 2, if he turns to shite buy him out and they still have soooo much money.

lol Jays!

We will see, then.

Who is the dork looking guy in your profile pic?

Brad Marchand - Boston Bruins left winger

ETA: from Wikipedia "Marchand, while known for his scoring ability, has also been described as one of the NHL's most notorious "pests." His play is often overshadowed by his on-ice antics and dirty play. "

Brito

Teoscar

Mckinney

Hanson

Urena

The Bisons and Blue Jays are slowing trading lineups lol

Honestly, including September I can see everyone in this lineup get a call up at some point - except for Guillotte. Hopefully Brito and Hanson have already had their call ups though!

Sure the value is not great, that is obvious. But doesn't matter, a lottery ticket in rookie ball is fine.

Also the idea of holding onto Smoak to support the youngsters is dumb to me. No evidence of any value here. Maybe knowing the one good restaurant in Cleveland or something.

No. Not Vlad, not Jansen, not Biggio, not Bichette, etc.

Boxy plan - extend EE, Bats, Smoak, Pillar, Stroman, Sanchez, keep Martin, keep Tulo. Dumbass.

Your quick turn to personal attacks is very telling. Did I hit a nerve? Believe me, I know your frustration. I wish we could trade you to Orioles Hangout for weems, but, alas, sometimes we just can't have what we want.

I only counterattack, dumbass.

Thanks.

I hope he can play hockey better then he looks. I thought his photo was a joke from Slapshot, the Enforcer or was actually Laika. He looks like total dork in that photo..

Biggio looks like the real deal.

I agree with trading Smoak for a PBTL or a box of condoms.

That's a stupid thing to agree with.

Considering the Jays have a glut of middle infield prospects and a shortage of OF prospects, why not just make the decision to move Biggio to the corner OF now, especially since he has been showing the ability to adapt to that (as you described).

Another important consideration is Bichette. If you move Biggio to corner OF, that opens up 2B for Bichette (seems he is still considered unlikely to be an average or better SS at the MLB level).

Moving a guy away from the position they’ve played their entire minor league and college career is pretty last resort.

Unless they absolutely become a pumpkin at their position you don’t want something dramatic like 2B -> RF as a permanent solution. (See Gurriel)

You can give him a few games there over the season in emergency, but guys don’t learn a new position over 5 appearances in triple-A. Player development is not that videogame simple unfortunately, like MLB the show and take a 20% penalty to your fielding rating. Veterans would have a hard time doing it let alone a guy making his debut and just learning to hit MLB pitching.

Bichette absolutely will get every opportunity to play shortstop. There’s no chance anyone will block him. If he proves he sucks then we find another way.
