M.E. Verified Member Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 Did you see galvis while on deck basically behind the plate. I bet he wears one tomorrow for that. Obviously can’t do that now.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 This would have been a fun time for a suicide squeeze. Galvis can handle the bat. Too late now though.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 LMAO Galvis no clue there, nothing near the plate.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 Those were some really good sliders, obviously would have liked Galvis to adjust but it is what it is.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 Buck hypothesizing that Urena will break for home if the ball is hit on the ground to put the pressure on the defence.... ....ya..... With the bases loaded, the runner on third does usually go.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 Those were some really good sliders, obviously would have liked Galvis to adjust but it is what it is. The amount of depth on that slider is crazy.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 Buck.. "I think they'll send Urena on a ball in the infield and put pressure on the defense to make a play". The bases are loaded you drunk f***.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 That's game, they had their chance.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 Just missed it. Drury's had some very good at-bats, it's interesting to see him finally go to the pull side with more authority.
geebaan Verified Member Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 That Galvis at bat was easily one of the worst I’ve ever seen. The pitcher didn’t throw him anything remotely close to a strike the entire at bat.

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 Vladdy holding his own defensively at third.

He got thrown a bunch of good sliders, it wasn't a good AB but it's not like Walden was bouncing pitches three feet in front of him. Sometimes you're allowed to give the opposition some credit. The slider on the strikeout pitch in particular was nasty, started out around the bottom of the zone and had a ton of depth to it.

True, but he should have stayed short in that situation. Just worry about making half decent contact and the game would most likely have been over.

Ex Player Verified Member Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 True, but he should have stayed short in that situation. Just worry about making half decent contact and the game would most likely have been over Exactly. He was taking homerun cuts out there

Just worry about making half decent contact and the game would most likely have been over. I mean yes, obviously he should have made contact but the pressure of the situation combined with good pitching throws any kind of game plan that you have out the window. Also with a 5 man infield he really had to focus on driving the ball and not just putting the bat on the ball for a weak dribbler. I didn't see anyone berating Mookie Betts for striking out against Tim Mayza yesterday with the bases loaded and 1 out. Good pitching prevailed then, and it did on Galvis' AB.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 Exactly. He was taking homerun cuts out there With a 5 man infield you have to focus on elevating the ball as simply making contact won't necessarily end the game. Hitting in the MLB is really hard.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 Yeah that's a ball, but it's too close to take.
King Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 I'll take "Least Surprising Stats" for $1000, Alex.
geebaan Verified Member Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 Can we get a new hitting coach with these approaches? Just gross at bats.

As a hitter in that situation, you can initially pretty much eliminate anything up in the zone, huge advantage. I know it's not easy hitting good pitching but the combination of staying short and looking for something down around the knees (until two strikes),the chances of success is a lot higher. Regarding Betts, the pitches he struck out on vs Mayza were in the strike zone, or close to it. Not a good comparison.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 I think it's interesting how catchers today immediately throw the ball out of play if it hit the dirt. 20 years ago the umpire would have to pry it out of their fingers.
