Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2019 Posted April 20, 2019 Keep up the good work, Org. You're doing a mighty fine job with these. Yes, Org has the good ju ju. No one else even think about starting a GDT. This is an ORG world!
tbad Verified Member Posted April 20, 2019 Posted April 20, 2019 Extend/sign Smaok Extend/sign Drury Extend/sign Tellez Extend/sign Sogard Extend/sign Galvis Extend/sign Hernandez Extend/sign McKinney This offense may never lose again!
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2019 Posted April 20, 2019 Is Sogard .500 BABIP sustainable? Probably, might actually be a tad low when he regresses...
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2019 Posted April 20, 2019 It's a wet dream for casuals though. Buck and Tabby were still going on about this f***ing bunt in the 7th or 8th inning. "It got the offense going", "I don't care what the statistics say, scoring the first run is huge because the other team has to score 2 to take the lead". Just stoking that casual fire within.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2019 Posted April 20, 2019 Or extend him for cheap honestly. Could still be a stable ~2 win player for a couple more years barring a heavy decline. I was asking myself this question. Can we roster Smoak, Vladdy & Tellez for the next couple of years? If Vladdy can man 3rd for a year or two - I guess there is (although I hate clogging the DH spot). I guess there's a good chance that Tellez isn't anything...if he is, you could probably survive for a couple of years with all 3. I think an extension is the best option for Smoak. Doubt we'd get much for him and he's a solid player.

BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2019 Posted April 20, 2019 Would not mind extending Smoak another 2 years. But I’m really not worried about first base. At worst, even if Tellez doesn’t stick.. McKinney, Biggio, and Gurriel could spot there until Vlad does. Extending Stroman would be interesting.

In the current market, that's what we should do for sure.

P2F Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2019 Posted April 21, 2019 Don't look now, but this team is almost .500.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2019 Posted April 21, 2019 Don't look now, but this team is almost .500. This team looks pretty decent when you add Vlad the lineup could surprise a bit....Shoemaker Injury really sucks though. This week the haters have disappeared for a bit. Extend Stroman, Sanchez and Smoak. In the current market, that's what we should do for sure. I agree with this.

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2019 Posted April 21, 2019 They have to do something about the broadcast man. What's the contract status on Buck and Tabby? They need to GTFO. Buck and Pat last signed contracts a few years ago and they expire at the end of this season. I’ve been looking forward to this offseason for a while, hoping that Pat doesn’t get a new deal.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2019 Posted April 21, 2019 Extend Stroman, Sanchez and Smoak. In the current market, that's what we should do for sure. IMO Stroman should be the priority, though I worry that despite all the recent extensions around the league and Stroman claiming he wants one, it still hasn’t happened. Assume he’s asking for too much. I’ve always liked Sanchez more than most but he’s not yet proved he’s totally over blister issues yet or that he’s going to remain a starter - let’s revisit later in the year before committing to him. Smoak I wouldn’t extend if we can get an ok return for him, but if not 2 years at most. He’s pretty good, but we could replace him with a short term ok veteran without losing much, saving money, and keeping 1B open.

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2019 Posted April 21, 2019 It was pointed out by observers that Sanchez kept looking at his finger during warms ups in the pen and during the game his last start. I think Sanchez is a MM of skin away from getting hammered because he can’t throw all his pitches due to a blister or going on the IL.. Very scary, especially considering the Shoemaker & Borucki injuries and to me, Sanchez is very high risk.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2019 Posted April 21, 2019 Why Sanchez? Just for the opportunity to see if he magical develops into a ML starter? Based on the assumption that we could extend him cheaper than it would cost to get a comparable pitcher on the open market. If he's somehow commanding like $20M per, then obviously not, but if we could lock him up at like 5/$60-80M or so I'd do that. I'm comfortable with him as a #3 starter for a few years.

That'd be okay for an elie reliever at worst, sign me up at 5/60.

That would be an excellent contract if we could get it done. His arm has been very healthy and it's blatantly obvious by now that he's a FIP beater. Then there's always what tantalizing Cy level upside if he retains his stuff.

King Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2019 Posted April 21, 2019 Sanchez is absolutely terrible. Count me out of the group giving him $80 million. Good Lord.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2019 Posted April 21, 2019 I’m still a bit unsure about Sanchez on a 5 year deal. If he can stay healthy for a full season and pitch at minimum like a no. 3 starter, then I would do 5/$60M. It’s a bit of a tall order though, he’s been A) healthy, good, for a full season only once in his career.. and even that year his finger was questionable. With the way Boris milks his cash cows, he’s more likely to reach free agency and pray for a bidding war. But an extension could happen.
King Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2019 Posted April 21, 2019 I like this optimism! Don't encourage it.
