Probably will be just our luck he will put a up a 5 WAR season while we are paying him to play for one of if not the richest teams in baseball.. LOL I am happy we cut him loose.. Just sucks he will be within the division on the Evil Empire.. for $555K USD and we are paying $20 million.. USD damn.. Pretty sure Manny Machado will go to the Yanks, they will move him to 3rd and trade Andujar... .. Tulo will play until Didi returns.. They will get some good prospects for Andujar,... The really good will get even better... Edited January 2, 2019 by Carlos Danger

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 I still think its stupid he was released with zero financial savings. I wanted him to come to Spring Training and quit and go home like he said he would. That way he could have been suspended without pay. I doubt he helps the Yankees much but if he does it’s going to be a giant piss off.

Yeah, I would have preferred to see what he could do if he really is mostly healthy rather than pay for someone else on top of his salary who may not be much better. Worst case, let him go in May if need be. Best case, he gets off to a hot start and someone picks up some of his remaining salary via trade.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 Don't care. 2019 is a write off for the Jays, a development year with Pearson / Pardinho / Groshans / etc getting 1 year closer to MLB. Hope to score some low priced tickets to see Vlad and hope Tulo gets his ring.

Well, maybe we can make up for it by signing Bartolo Colon and then flipping him at the deadline for Wander Franco or something.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 f*** Tulo he never wanted to be a Jay.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 f*** Tulo he never wanted to be a Jay. Showed his true Douche bag , intiled colours Before he left ... True Yankee ! now how many can he hit over the short cheating ass Porch they have ! Over/ under and how many against the Jays? plus another thing that needs to be umm Fixed with Baseball this min ******** should at less be 10-20 percent of the contract or International money or something that goes back ... Loss of your last pick in the Draft ! Provided that contract is More then x amount Above league minimum!

I didn't see the harm in giving him a look as we won't be competing anyways. Perhaps they're 100 percent certain that he's finished. Can't see any other reasonable explanation.
mtljaysfan Verified Member Posted January 5, 2019 Posted January 5, 2019 Tulo hasn't played for us for almost 2 years. The FO probably doesn't think he can be any good on the field. And we need a spot on the 25 man rsoter to keep Luciano. I take it as we traded Tulo for Luciano with all his money paid by the Jays of course and I'm quite happy with it.

It's easy to be happy when it's not your money. The idea of a pitcher taking a middle infielder's spot is ridiculous. Gurriel or Urena are the guys taking Tulo's spot. Both have options. If Tulo plays like crap like Atkins predicted no one will care. If he plays close to a league average shortstop or better, people will complain, because they could have traded him for some sort of prospect and saved some money. Time will tell.

Well we have to pay him weather we keep him on the team or not. Considering we're not competing next year, I'd rather let guys like Gurriel play out the reason to see if we can count on them in the future. He's worth of a spot on the roster only if he put up a decent season and be traded at the deadline. The probability of that happening is not high I guess and he has a Non-trade clause BTW. So yes I rather have Luciano than Tulo on the team, as there's potential he can be a useful piece for us in a few years.

Released him as a favor essentially after meeting with his agent

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2019 Posted January 6, 2019 Seems like they were going after “franchise reputation” points. Released him as a favor essentially after meeting with his agent This seems to be a bigger factor than thinking Tulo has zero chance of any kind of bounce back. Half the teams in the league apparently were willing to give him a chance:
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2019 Posted January 6, 2019 I mean a minimum salary look at Tulo to see if he can provide any value doesn’t have many drawbacks for other teams. If we’d kept him he could have used his no trade to veto anything he didn’t want, Heyman’s above tweet, plus the posturing of only willing to play SS for us...... suggests to me he just wants as much control as possible over his remaining time in the game.
