Completely ignoring the political aspect of the tweet, I'm not sure how drafting a woman or trans person independent of merit would strengthen the activist cause. Forcing fans to watch a woman throw a 65 mph max effort four-seamer or getting the bat knocked out of their hands on a bunt attempt would make a mockery of the game.

Joint 6th in NL in fWAR, 4th in the whole league in bWAR (8.2). Not sure why you think 4th in the Cy Young is outlandish?

 

I use the Fangraph WAR system. Solely because the BP webpage is utter dogshit. Freeland was only 4.2 WAR in that system (tied for 6th as you said - or as I think you said...wtf is 'joint 6th in NL'). I didn't think 4.2 WAR would place him 6th. I should have looked first. I'm lazy at times too. Don't judge me.

Random topic but Jorge Alfaro from the Marlins has a ,398 career BABIP through almost 700 career plate appearances. Is he due for regression or he is a weird high BABIP guy because he hits the ball hard as hell to all fields with incredible speed for a catcher (42nd in sprint speed in the whole league per statcast). Interesting profile because he basically is relying on an incredibly high BABIP to stay relevant because his K/BB is some stuff nightmares are made off.

You could also frame this slightly differently, because if he can improve his PD incrementally, he can be a breakout star. He has plus bat speed, power, foot speed, and maybe the best throwing arm among all catchers. If he can trim his K rate to under 30%, he could be a monster.

Similar profile to Mike Zunino (albeit with more speed). That made me look up Zunino and find out that in 2014 he posted a 4.2 WAR season while hitting .199 with an 87 wRC+. That's great defense!
