Best battles for the all 21st century team? Utley vs Cano at 2B. Cabrera, ARod, Beltre and Pujols (Rolen and Votto are possibilities too...Chipper Jones if you are a terrible person) for the 3 spots of 1B, DH and 3B. You could cheat and put ARod at SS. OF of Trout, Bonds, Ichiro leaves out Beltran and I don't want to do that. McCann, Martin, Mauer or Molina at C. None of this includes more recent guys who deserve to be part of the conversation. Pitching for me is easier. Doc, Scherzer, Verlander, Kershaw and Greinke. Leaving CC out cause I'm racist...well more like he's just had so many more innings than everyone. He's my ironman but not my starter. Also leaving out King Felix cause you got to still be able to pitch into your 30s for my team. My bullpen is Mariano and no one else.

Royals designated hitter Jorge Soler has made a change in representation. According to a tweet from Jon Heyman of MLB Network, Soler has chosen to work with agent Casey Close of Excel Sports Management after previously working with ACES (link).

 

The timing of this change is certainly interesting. Soler’s current contractual status with Kansas City is unique, owing to the nine-year, $30MM contract with the Cubs as a 20-year-old back in 2012. After logging a 2019 campaign that included a .265/.354/.569 slash and 48 home runs, Soler is “signed” for the 2020 season at just $4MM. However, the 27-year-old retains the right to opt out of that guaranteed salary and into MLB’s arbitration process this winter, as is the case with many Cuban defectors who signed Major League deals under the previous international free agency infrastructure. Given Soler’s counting stats alone, he’s almost a certain lock to opt for the arbitration route.

 

Though KC still holds Soler’s rights through 2021, it stands to reason that club exec Dayton Moore might kick the tires on a potential long-term extension with the slugger this winter. If the club aims to contend within the next two seasons, as they’ve stated, Soler and his potent bat (136 wRC+ in 2019) project to be indispensable to Kansas City’s currently tepid offensive group (cumulative 84 wRC+ in 2019).

Holy s*** I had to check it myself but Kevin Pillar actually had 88 RBI last year. You learn something new everyday. Whatever you think of Pillar, or that stat, or the guy who voted for him or his rant in response to being called out for voting for him, that IS pretty impressive for Pillar. Also LOL @ his 1.5 WAR year. If Kevin Pillar managed to put up 88 RBI in a season and I knew absolutely nothing else about him that year, I would guess he put up 4 WAR. I guess RBI count really is unreliable.
