43211234 Verified Member Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 Reddit's upvote/downvote system is so bad. Both on the Blue Jays and on the Baseball subreddits all the comments are celebrating how much money the Blue Jays are saving because they upvote what they want to hear. The one person questioning whether the Blue Jays are off the hook has their comment basically hidden from everyone.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 And that's why we don't use Reddit, boys. There's not even a question of common sense. Why would Tulo voluntarily give up 40 million if all he had to do was sit his ass on a bench? The fact that people here think he would have retired regardless whether or not he was giving up tens of millions of dollars is absolutely ludicrous.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 Tanaka getting roughed up tonight.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 How dumb are the Nats? Rodney got 2 holds yesterday, pitched in both games of the double header and they ask him to close today loool. He's 42 years old wtf. I might have gone with, how dumb are the Nats for giving him high leverage innings period?
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 I have my doubts. Releasing him was questionable when it happened and looks like a terrible decision now though. There is literally zero chance Tulo would have officially retired if he were still Jays property. He would have gone through whatever motions were necessary to collect his $20M or whatever he’s owed next year.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 That works too but the easy answer is that he pumps gas and shoots arrows. Yeah, but he doesn't know where the arrows are going anymore. Actually, he's never known where they were going.

He likely doesn’t retire but there was really no reason to release him in the middle of a rebuild.

It’s not impossible that he’d rather spend the next 2 years with his family instead of a pointless two year rehab.

It’s not impossible that he’d rather spend the next 2 years with his family instead of a pointless two year rehab. It's 14 months. He's not playing again this year, and then he would have been off for 4 months for the winter. We're talking about forgoing $18M next season because he doesn't want to go to a few doctors appointments over an 6-7 month stretch in 2020. He likely would have received the Prince Fielder treatment next year anyway and spent the year at home.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 (edited) Stevie Wilkerson on to close out in the 16th inning, lol. And he did it, 3 up 3 down on that 53 MPH eephus heat! https://www.mlb.com/news/orioles-outlast-angels-in-marathon-game Edited July 26, 2019 by Spanky99
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 https://fantasy.fangraphs.com/a-new-era-for-yusei-kikuchi-is-about-to-begin/ FG has basically become rotoworld at this point. The entire gist of the article is that Yusei Kikuchi has been better so far against teams outside the ALW, and is about to face a bunch of teams outside the ALW so his performance might tick up.

I lol'd at your comment, and you're totally right here, but does anyone actually use RotoGraphs? I thought most of their writers were either pretty bad and/or condescending?

I only clicked because I just basically dropped Kikuchi in BORED and thought there might be some key insight that I missed. Thankfully there was not.

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2019 Posted July 27, 2019 Gio left the Brewers game with shoulder tightness, that's 3 SP in the last week, along with Woodruff and Chacin, there goes their hopes!
5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted July 27, 2019 Posted July 27, 2019 Angels starting to stink it up at the worst time possible. Seems like they're gonna drop their 2nd in a row at home to the pitiful Orioles.
5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted July 27, 2019 Posted July 27, 2019 Former Jays farmhand Asher Wojciechowski just carvin' up the Angels... They look pitiful. Shame of a season so far, on paper it looked like this might've been a year they could crack the playoffs.

Shame of a season so far, on paper it looked like this might've been a year they could crack the playoffs. The death of Skaggs was obv devastating for the team and the season. But positives include La Stella and Fletcher coming through, Calhoun bouncing back from a shocking season last year, and Pujols not being the complete liability he’s been for a few years. Next year actually looks promising for them if they can get some pitching in the offseason. The return of Ohtani as a pitcher is massive, and if Jo Adell graduates next year they have a very good lineup supported by an ace starter.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2019 Posted July 27, 2019 This morning on Sportsnet they actually highlighted that the Cubs used their last mound visit in the 8th with the bases loaded. That reminded me that rule even existed. It reminds me of the take out slide rule. Buck and Tabby (and just about every other broadcast team in baseball) wined and complained about this change and how it was going to effect the game....and about a month later, no one ever spoke of it again. It turns out catchers don't need to speak with pitchers 12 times a game. I haven't heard anyone complain they had miscommunication in a big moment because their catcher couldn't come talk to them. The issues around the takeout slide are basically gone (save a few incidents). IMO - it's a better game now. Kudos to MLB.
