How is that in any way political? I think they call them "French drains" because they immediately surrender water to the soil. Any time the French have faced any kind of adversity, they immediately gave up, except for the one time they didn't and decided to burn the person responsible at the stake.

Yeah except for that time France conquered 50% of Europe and it took a coalition of all the other powers 7 different attempts to stop them. Prior to WWI, France had the most prestigious military history of any country, ever.
