Apparently MLB's Atlantic League experiment consists of :

 

Using TrackMan to assist umpires in calling balls and strikes

Banning the infield shift

3 batter minimum for pitchers

No mound visits except for pitching changes and injuries

Increasing the size of the bases by 3 inches

Reducing the time between innings by 30 seconds

 

2nd half of the season will see the pitching rubber moved to 62'6.

Probably, but there's no harm in running the experiment and seeing what the results are. I don't like banning the shift, but I don't have a problem with restricting it a bit. Maybe require at least 2 infielders on each side of the 2nd base bag when the ball is released or something. It would just reduce the exaggeration of the shifts we see, but would still allow them to be used (along with still allowing 4 outfielder or 5 infielder configurations).

TBF the 3rd biggest “problem” is high strikeout numbers and low batting averages which the mound and shift are in response to respectively. And the extra man comes with pitching restrictions - max 13 on the roster (5 starters & 8 relievers will likely be the standard).

Why's that Spank? I tend to agree that one of the biggest issues is the high K numbers. The game is more exciting when there are balls put in play. I'm not sure the answer is to move/lower the mound, but Bob's just saying they are testing that out to see if it helps.

Watching Szherzer paint the corner for a beautiful called strike 3 or watching Chapman blow away three straight and strike out the side is beautiful.

The last great mainstream boom for baseball was when Sosa; McGwire, and Bonds were juiced out of their minds hitting home runs. Fans don’t want to see strike outs, certainly not the fans Manfred needs to attract to the game. MLB’s audience is old. They need to attract young people. That’s why I think Aaron Judge breaking out in New York is perfect for the game. Players like him in big markets will attract fans. Same with Harper in Philly.

 

I’m completely on board with banning excessive shifts and finding a way to limit K’s.

13 man limit is part of the 26 man deal, and is separate to other things like the reduction in September call ups. None have been confirmed yet.

 

I don’t necessarily agree (which was why I put problem in quotes), but dominating relievers all throwing near 100mph and the strikeouts (and more importantly) lower averages that come from that = the 3rd most complained about issue I.e. lack of offence.

Fly balls and line drive outs at the warning track are extremely fun! We need more pitchers like Josh Towers who pitch to hard contact. Makes that game more interesting.
