Didn't they offer him 300 million?

Yeah they did. The idea that the Nats wouldn't want Harper back because of his personality is laughable.

They allegedly did. The Nats owner publicly stated they would not offer that amount.

Anyway, the Nats not seeming to be making much of an effort to re-sign him is telling

Yeah, nothing says "we're not interested" like offering a guy 300 million

There is a long string of tweets from Sherman about proposed changes. I agree with a lot of them.

They are trying to counter tanking by offering that any club that losses 90 or more games for a 2d straight yr moves back 15 spots in the June draft and losses $2M in international slot $; 3 yrs in a row drop 20 spots and lose $3M.

I really like forcing teams to be competitive rather than tanking and sitting on their money. The above seems a little excessive, but it's a starting point.

Yeah you start extreme and then you work your way to something more moderate.

A strike would be a huge blow for both sides. There's a lot of incentive for them to resolve this ASAP. Universal DH would be amazing.

I don't think fans or teams get it. Ohtani plays in Anaheim. If pitchers are good at hitting, their teams can still make them hit.

3 batter minimum proposal for pitchers is arguably a more extreme rule change than DH, since it would put a lot of loogies out of business. It might lead to a lot of fake injuries. It might also lead to a lot more intentional walks.

I can already see the fake injury controversy coming up in a playoffs deciding game. Sounds like something that Houston would do.

Yeah even something more minor that eliminates the incentive to tank/openly rebuild would help the league. Like if the Jays knew they couldn't lose 90+ games in 2019, then they would have spent some money on free agents, as would the majority of the teams in the league in a similar spot. It makes sense. Plus, even when the Jays are rebuilding, I'd like to see a watchable product on the field.

I feel like the NL DH is coming soon. Am I crazy or are there better DH options in the NL than the AL? It seems like NL teams have been loading up for this already.

Cards didn't trade obvious DH Jose Martinez.

Padres didn't trade obvious DH Franmil Reyes, Wil Myers, Hunter Renfroe, etc.

Brewers suspiciously have obvious DH Eric Thames lying around even after acquiring LH bench option Ben Gamel.

Mets signed multiple hitters that leave McNeil and obvious DH Peter Alonso without a spot.

Rockies signed 1B/DH Daniel Murphy. Mark Reynolds invite.

Braves signed Donaldson when they have Camargo and Riley?

The entire Cubs bench is full of 2-3 WAR players. Semi-obvious DH Schwarber still on the roster.

What are the Reds going to do with Kemp/Schebler if Senzel can play CF?

Dodgers have 100 guys.

It won't can't be implemented for '19

For most of the rules I can I agree, the DH in NL I can see being implemented still.

You need to give teams a full off-season to plan their rosters. No one in the NL has a Morales style player (all bat, no field). You need give them fair notice and allow them to chase down career DH's to add to their roster.

I'd venture a guess that Adam Jones has multiple offers that reflect his value as decent 4th OF, but that he finds them unsatisfying.

He's elite. Why would he accept those?

He's getting roasted in the comments section lol. Reporters tend to have pretty bad opinions related to the sport itself, especially the ones that often break major signings or trades.

OTOH, this could literally be Jones' agent telling him to tweet that out in exchange for having first dibs on a certain deal with another client of his.

That guy tweeting out s*** doesn't move the needle at all for a Jones signing. Any agent knows that.

Just another idiot sportswriter that writes crap for the masses and doesn't need to be knowledgeable.
