Not a lot of great CF options as free agents. How bout we act like a real club and sign Ozuna or Rendon or Cole this off season, or even a couple of them.

Imagine:

Rendon 3B

Bo SS

Biggio 2B

Vlad 1B

Never going to happen though is it!

I think they said the other day that he has a sore knee.

Vlad is like 19, 20 yrs old and has to have load management during the season and has been hurt like 3 times this year already and was hurt last year. This kid with that body type is a going to be a straight DH by the time he is 26 not sooner.. Would rather have had Ocuna and think guys like Bichette and Biggio are more integral to the long term success of the org.

Don't get me wrong, I think Vlad will be a valuable bat going fwd, but weighed down (no pun intended) by lack of positional flexibility, playing time and stamina..

There is a chance Reese McGuire might put up higher WAR due to his plus D and arm.

I think that you think that someone will take the opposing on view on this. No one will. We all agree that Vlad is a fat out of shape ground ball hitter who cant play D is maybe the worst runner in baseball and will only get fatter and more injured from here

No doubt. Going forward, I am more excited about Biggio and Bichette’s future going forward than Fatty Guerrero. The former have better alround tools and can also hit the ball out of the infield.

Montoyo really doesn't have a clue what to say and what not to say. I mean, he's absolutely right... But all he's doing now is creating a narrative where there isn't need for one.

Lol, Teoscar had a better season than the guy they just extended for $50 million. The OF is a mess aside from Gurriel. I still think they'll stick with what they have in 2020 and make changes in 2021, but maybe Charlie knows something already.

Not to mention the retards throwing Vladdy under the bus, lol. *SMH*

I'm not sure if he'd fit under a bus.

Of the 21 starters we used this season (the most of any team in 100 years), only 3 had a WAR of 1 or over. 2 of those 3 were Sanchez and Stroman.

TBF quite a few were openers, but still!

I keep telling myself only 1 more year of Montoyo just 1 more year of Montoyo. Hes just here as the bitch manager to take all the L’s until the team is ready to be competitive.

I would imagine the full quote is less scathing.

Anyway, gotta love it when fans complain about Atkins always being indirect and then turn around and complain about Montoyo being too blunt.

Funny how we expected Vlad Jr. to be a ROY candidate, yet disappoints as other Jays rookies have terrific years:

Biggio: 24, 100 GP, 114 wRC+, 0.343 wOBA, 0.344 xwOBA, 2.4 fWAR

Bichette: 21, 46 GP, 142 wRC+, 0.384 wOBA, 0.337 xwOBA, 1.7 fWAR

Jansen: 24, 107 GP, 68 wRC+, 0.275 wOBA, 0.313 xwOBA, 1.4 fWAR

McGuire: 24, 30 GP, 128 wRC+, 0.364 wOBA, 0.308 xwOBA, 1.2 fWAR

Vlad Jr.: 20, 123 GP, 105 wRC+, 0.329 wOBA, 0.329 xwOBA, 0.4 fWAR

Tellez: 24, 111 GP, 91 wRC+, 0.308 wOBA, 0.332 xWOBA, 0.1 fWAR

That's really promising, all things considered (plus Thornton at 1.9 fWAR).

I know I am a broken record... however god knows what the Blue Jays coache's and players know... we assume they are bright people

However on Mike Wilner's end of season poll Randall Grichuk (.280 on base percentage) got player of the year, and Cavan Biggio, a fly ball on base machine with defensive versatility, who led Jays position players in WAR got no votes... so who knows what they think about the fly ball revolution, advanced stats, and even 1980s Bill james type analysis.

I can tell you this

a) If Vlad Guerrero shows up in Spring Training at 230 pounds and plays defense and runs the bases to the best of his capabilities but doesn't fix his groundball issues he will go from 0.4 to 1.4 WAR.

B) If Vlad Guerrero shows up in Spring Training at 297 pounds and plays defense and runs the bases even worse than this year, but fixes his ground ball issues and hits like his minor league stats predicted he will have 5 WAR.

c) If Vlad Guerrero shows up in Spring Training at 230 pounds and plays defense and runs the bases to the best of his capabilities and fixes his ground ball issues and hits like his minor league number predict he will have 7 WAR.

Grichuk isn't a mess. He had a 4th OF year, in terms of numbers/productiom, but he's far from a disaster. And we have enough 4th OF types to have that position covered nicely if Grichuk starts performing like he can and has. Gurriel Jr. has LF barring disaster. So really, the outfield is decided with 3/4 positions filled pretty much. Far from a mess.

Yeah I'm not as worried about the OF as a lot of others seems to be on here. Gurriel was injured so he was out of the picture for a while so recency bias. But if you put him back in the picture the entire OF landscape changes. I expect Grishuk to be better next year. One decent signing and the Jays are set with some nice depth at the position too. It's the easiest spot to fill with a 30's vet willing to sign cheap for 1-2 years. Would rather focus on pitching.

Crazy that Grichuk lost nearly 1 WAR this year due to defense and baserunning.

Bookmark this and bring it back in 2 years to see how bad of a take it was.

Would've loved it if Stroman got the most votes.

How the hell did Biggio not get at least 1?

Considering that Grichuk won the player of the year which can only be for his home run and RBI totals (team leader in both), I guess Biggio's low batting average and (relatively low) home run totals harmed him. Or maybe the player's vote on personality and he's a dick - who knows!
