Yes, because he played so many innings on the turf as a third baseman for us.

Not sure what you’re trying to get at here. Weird attempt at sarcasm. Are we going to pretend he didn’t run all over the turf because he was initially positioned on dirt? Like everytime he ventured in foul ground for instance?

Yes, this synthetic turf doesn't do f*** all to athletes. Certainly not guys on the dirt.

Jury is very much out on that. What remains is players not wanting to play on it and I don't blame them. Baseball should have made every team do grass only fields a long time ago.

Soccer, football and baseball all use this s*** now?

I doubt the turf had anything to so with anything.

I remember fondly those days back when some of you guys were all cheering for the Argos to f*** off from the Rogers Centre because you believed Beeston's BS about that being the roadblock to replacing the turf. The players have to play on turf but they also don't have to play doubleheaders in September because of rainouts in April. You win some, you lose some.

Being a "clutch" hitter (or "clutch" in any sport) isn't a talent. It's a personality trait. Someone who can be smooth and focused under pressure. I suppose that plays into being a veteran, having been there before so pressure situations become routine. But MLBers have been in pressure situations since Little League. It's a concept that's easy to explain to newbs but difficult to measure. That's why it keeps on surviving as a "skill". There is probably some merit to it, for instance, if you're super duper nervous all the time you're probably not gripping the bat optimally. But if you're super duper nervous you're probably not making it to the MLB level anyways.

If I had my choice I would pick the good hitter who is kind of flaky under pressure than the terrible hitter with ice in his veins.

Beeston claiming they were going to replace the turf eventually and then giving a time frame so far away that he knew he wouldn't be around to answer for it was genius. He got ahead in life for reasons like that.

Rainouts and turf are two separate issues. You can have a retractable roof stadium with natural grass.

How many here think the Jays need a new stadium??

The location of the Stadium is the only reason why they still play at Rogers Centre. It could not be any more prime of a location. Unfortunately that means we will likely have to deal with renovated versions of the cement dump forever. They could have destroyed the current building and rebuilt on the current stadium sight but that would have required us to play elsewhere for one season. Perhaps Montreal. In a season we were going to lose 90+ games might have been a good solution.

That's not a bad idea. Or they could play games across Canada in places like Regina, Calgary, Winnipeg, Vancouver. That would really help grow the game in our country.

Might as well just change the name to the Canada Blue Jays then.

Well it'd just be for one season.

The players would hate it. It would be like being on the road playing away games all season long.

Eric Blair: Based on the timing of the trades they have made (Donaldson, Happ, Stroman, Sanchez, Pillar, Martin, Osuna etc.) and the returns they have received, do you think that Shapiro-Adkins are completely over matched by there peers.

2:22

Craig Edwards: Not based on the above, no. Trading a pre-injured Donaldson before the year might have been the safer bet, but giving it a shot in 2018 before a rebuild was probably the right choice. The Happ trade didn’t seem too bad. The Sanchez trade seemed a little odd, though he’s hurt now. They probably made the right choice about Osuna. The Stroman trade seems odd, but it isn’t crazy to have prioritized pitching and taken the best offer out there. The real test for them begins this offseason as they need to supplement their MLB-level prospects with good players to try and win back the fans.

I think they are trying to sell the team and that is why there hasn't been any formal renovation announcements. Shaprio has alluded basically that they have made their proposals on what the rogers centre upgrades would be but basically its up to Rogers to go forward and put the $ up and so far that hasn't happened.

They never shouldve gotten rid of old Exhibition stadium. They couldve played there for a year or 2 until the Skydome was torn down and replaced

You guys are nuts, they will play at the Rogers Centre for the next 20 years. Major renovations are happening, Shapiro already alluded that they have some big things to announce.

And how exactly would you "renovate" the Skydome??
