The casuals love for Goins is bizarre. He should be a villain for dropping that popup.

I guess the allure of a scrappy middle infielder is just that strong.

Yeah it's weird, same as the Pillar love. Dude was atrocious at the plate. He made TV dives though so all good.

Pillar is not the same at all. Pillar never failed to put up 2 wins in his 4 full seasons with the Blue Jays.

Pillar is a 2 WAR player, not replacement level. He wad a solid piece for us.

I don't understand why people keep pretending Pillar was some kind of albatross here. He was a good player for several years, and always played hard. He'll probably finish the year with 1-2 WAR.

Pillar was an excellent player for us, guy was loved because he was a truly elite defender and put his body on the line on every play. Just because he had awful plate discipline didn't mean he was the same level of hitter as Ryan f***ing Goins.

He's a left-handed Teoscar Hernandez, only you can't quite dream on a breakout in the same way because Teoscar has huge power and Smith doesn't.

So you are saying more power and less hits

Is better then More hits and less power !!!

Or not ... can you expand or clarify this position ???

Some just had the opinion there was no reason to keep him any longer.

Yes, the same people that had the opinion that the guy who has been completely overmatched at AAA was a better player than Pillar right now and needed an MLB spot opened up for him immediately.

Speaking of which, Alford rocking a 91 wRC+ and 41% K rate in AAA so far.

Yikes

I've noticed that Jim has stopped complaining that he's not the everyday CF on the MLB team.

By the time Jays are good again, Pillar will be replacement level. Why keep him as a declining asset, even if there is only garbage to replace him?

I'm looking forward to seeing him in Toronto at some point this year. 36 PA in AAA notwithstanding.

He's up to 466 PA in AAA and his wRC+ is 88.

Agreed it is concerning. How much of the change from his excellent AA numbers in 2017 is due to injuries, we don't know.

His AA performance was weird. Struck out at better than a 25% clip in A, A+, and now AAA, but was sitting at 16% over close to 300 PA when he looked like a budding top prospect in New Hampshire. I'd be a lot higher on Alford if he was running that sub-20% K-rate in AAA.

I wonder if the jump from New Hampshire to Buffalo might be bigger than we give credit for.

Guys like Pompey, Tellez, Alford have all moved up and struggled. I'm sure there is more.

Non prospecty types like Jon Davis and Jon Berti moved up to AAA and saw their numbers slashed.

What's the big difference between AA and AAA? Fewer s*** pitchers, more breaking stuff, fewer meatballs, better pitch location in AAA?

It may well be that Alford has reached his ceiling and its AAA. Or he may have been impacted by injuries in 2018.

No, I hate watching Pillar at the plate as much as anyone, but his defense was absolutely elite. In his defensive prime, only Kiermaier was better outfielder.

Yeah I'm still believing in Alford, but his start in AAA this year (the K's in particular) is not good. He'd be eaten alive in the bigs. Hopefully it's just a bad start.

Kyle Tucker has a -1 wrc+ in 41 PA.

With normalish K/BB rates. I would be much more concerned about the 24 year old alford striking out at a 41% rate.

Tucker's BB and K rates are not that bad, and he has a really low BABIP.

Alford has a 41% K % (.313 BABIP). It's a SSS so he could definitely turn it around, but not the same as Tucker. Alford's K rates have spiked huge in AAA compared to AA.

BBBB is obviously saying that he is lost. He believed the albatross was going to lead him to be found, but the Mariner (BTS, not Ken Griffey Jr.) shot the Albatross (with his crossbow). The birds appear and suddenly BBBB thinks it is clear sailing once again...but there are spirits that now haunt the board because of the crimes of The Mariner (still BTS). This place is surrounded by water but no one has anything to drink, and one by one the entire crew (King et al) will die. BTS shall find land again but alas he will be alone with only the skin of the Albatross hanging around his neck.

Learn to read and understand people it's not rocket science.

Instead of the cross, the albatross

About my neck was hung.
