L54 Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 I hope you guys are all ready come draft day when the Jay's pick someone that was on nobody's radar. Yes I agree, nobody should discuss anything on a Blue Jays message board regarding the Blue Jays picks in the 2019 draft. The year has been so amazing there are countless ohther topics to discuss and the future is so bright the draft is essentially an afterthought. Hurr durr I’m so intelligent that I’m going to make a bold prediction the Jays won’t pick one of the 5 names floating around. Thanks for the insight I love reading what Blue Rocky, metafour and all the others have been posting for months. Its an extremely douche move from everyone who sits back and yells from the bleachers that we have no idea who they will pick and mocks are useless.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 Throw out all the mocks! Thanks, that was my plan Just based on pure write ups and limited video, I would like one of Baty, Carroll, Rutledge or Espino Oh really? We hadn’t heard

Yes, because no one freaked the f*** out like last year when the Jays took Groshans off the board over the other guys they were so sure about. Jesus Christ, can you sound more f***ing salty? Posting about eligible players are great, and BlueRocky is especially quickly becoming one of the board's best posters. The problem that needs to be seemingly reiterated to you is that people see the limited write ups and go f***ing gung-ho over these players. When draft day comes and said favourite player isn't picked by the Jay's, posters here lose their goddamn minds. The write ups are fun and interesting, enjoy them! I have no issue. But don't make reactions from draft results like you have even close to the same data and reports as major league offices do. Edited June 2, 2019 by Captain Adama
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 I am gong ho over Spencer Jones.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 I don't know what gong ho means but I suspect it would accurately describe my feelings for Mr. Jones
metafour Verified Member Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 Jordan Groshans did get mentioned pre-draft as a target of ours; albeit the surprise that they made that pick was still real. He didn't really come "out of nowhere". Both Warmoth and Pearson were 100% known targets - so this really isn't as much of a guessing game as you seem to think. Even with Bo Bichette, our high interest was brought up several times by Keith Law of all people, and Bichette was a 2nd round guy.

You getting worked up over people going “f***ing gung-ho” sounds like a personal problem and one that is completely within your control. Take a deep breath on draft day and realize that strangers reactions to draft picks on the internet shouldn’t actually effect you.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 Oh really? We hadn’t heard You are conflating two different things. BlueRocky and Metafour providing information for interesting players who are within reason of going off the board around 11 is one thing. It's great discussion. Mock drafts are the equivalent of useless Fangraphs fluff pieces and Sheryl Ring articles. I'm sorry if you're offended by these truths.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 I hope you guys are all ready come draft day when the Jay's pick someone that was on nobody's radar. My favourite part of the draft is us always taking a player nobody's ever heard of when X and Y are still on the board, and the gloom and doom that comes when the Red Sox grab someone that is known.

Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 MrBJay? Or is this not accurate? Groshans was discussed as a mid to late 1st or early 2nd rounder. Certainly not a 1st. Warmoth was definitely all over mocks, like metafour pointed out. Pearson not nearly to the same extent but yes, I'm not denying that he was on some Jays' previous draft lists. Yet the actual point remains, every year, mocks are woefully inaccurate and emotions run high every single year, despite which players the Jay's are linked to. Me originally telling people to calm themselves if players they want picked don't. That does not affect me other than an eyeroll. However, you deciding to respond like a total snarky douche to my original post made me understandably more aggressive.

How many of the players that have "dropped" have actually worked out? I think the players that people think were a reach tend to have a better track record. for the record I was on the you got to pick Andrew Vaughn over Adley in Fantasy (never in real life). Now I think it would be an egregious error. In 4 months we'll all be on someone else of course.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 Thanks, I needed a new player to hate after GCoopez and T-Sweazie on the Neazie If you could combine Chris Sale and Cody Bellinger into one player you would get Mr. Jones.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 Everyone in this thread is, PIST!!!
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 Spencer Jones is a 2019 LHP/1B/OF with a 6-7 210 lb. frame from Encinitas, CA who attends La Costa Canyon HS. Very long and tall build, very lanky and physically projectable. Long time two-way prospect who has made tremendous progress as a left handed pitcher, delivery is much more compact and downhill than when previously seen, high 3/4's arm slot with a tall and fall delivery, still refining ability to repeat but clearly a primary pitcher now. Fastball was up to 93 mph, very good angle when down in the zone. Curveball had serious spin and power with late 1/7 biting action when he was on top of it. Flashed two plus pitches with lots of potential for more. 6.76 runner, very loose and athletic for his size.. Left handed hitter with an upper body swing and plenty of pull side juice when he gets the barrel out. Exceptional student, verbal commitment to Vanderbilt. Selected to play in the 2018 Perfect Game All-American Classic.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 Spencer Jones is in the 99.58% percentile in exit velocity and 99.48% percentile in FB velocity. I AM GUNG HO

That's what I've been saying, we were mentioned to be on Groshan a few times and people are acting like that never happened. The mock drafts at least give you a decent idea who we are interested in and I would bank that this year is no different. I wouldn't even be surprised if we took a guy like Michael Busch or Greg Jones. We were connected to those names early just haven't heard much lately.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 Trying to remember the "I can't believe they haven't been picked yet" guys by memory is tougher than I thought. Will have to bump the past threads 2015 Daz Cameron, Funkhouser, Matuella? 2016 Groome, Josh Lowe, Shawn Anderson?? 2017 Bukauskus, Faedo, Kendall?

TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 2018 was definitely Liberatore and Singer Matuella was supposed to go high, early in the draft process, but I don't think anyone was surprised when he went where he did at the time of draft day MLB (admittedly this was pre-Callis) still had him ranked 28, and BA 23. I think everyone expected him to go day 1.

I’m sorry you’re offended that I’m calling you out for taking the easiest stance on the draft possible What’s douchey is guys who have no clue about the draft being the ones who think they need to forewarn everybody that the mock drafts aren’t going to play out as the projections. Well no s***, thanks for the heads up
