TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 Ritalinic Acid. Damn Dukies and their ADHD
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 You would think guys who are smart enough to go to Duke would also be smart enough to get a damn prescription if they want to pop ADHD meds.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 Why is ritalinic acid for ADHD on the banned list? What about it is performance enhancing? Full disclosure, I have zero pharmacological knowledge.

Full disclosure, I have zero pharmacological knowledge. This drug is classified as a psychostimulant, and this is the description of such a drug from some random website: A psychostimulant is a drug that produces a temporary increase in psychomotor activity or a temporary improvement in physical functions or mental processes or both. A psychomotor activity is one that involves the coordination of motor skills with thought; for example, throwing a baseball, brushing your teeth, etc. Psychostimulants are drugs that can improve your ability both physically and mentally during such activities. It looks like it can improve alertness or focus which in the context of baseball can be an advantage if someone without a diagnosed mental disorder takes it.

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 I can confirm as someone who doesn't have ADHD who took adderell this summer before golfing to see if it would help my terrible golf game the effects and boost in performance are real. Might have been a placebo effect but would recommend to any golfer.

Full disclosure, I have zero pharmacological knowledge. It's on the WADA list because of what it does for weight loss. Wrestlers and boxers have taken it for very quick and artificial water weight loss. I see Orgfiller has added some other information as well. But overall this is a drug suspension that will be easily forgotten much like Stroman's was.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 19, 2018 Author Posted November 19, 2018 You would think guys who are smart enough to go to Duke would also be smart enough to get a damn prescription if they want to pop ADHD meds. They still need an approved TUE as well.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 They still need an approved TUE as well. What's that?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 19, 2018 Author Posted November 19, 2018 Therapeutic Use Exemption. Many are rejected even with medical prescriptions. I'm not sure how minor leaguers submit them but in the majors they have to reapply every year.

I literally had a co worker go see his family doctor and ask for them because he was "having trouble focusing at workl" and got a prescription without any tests or anything, the Doctor apparently was like "well, if you don't have it...it won't do anything, and if it helps, just keep taking them" lol
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 Solid tweet, no other factors play into this:

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 If the benefits were that great, I would think that more players would just go make up some fake symptoms for a psychiatrist. ADHD is just a nebulous classification that groups together people with the same self diagnosed symptoms. Studies have shown that people can get a prescription for just about any mental ailment if they say the right things.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 Now that's what I want to see from a player who does something dumb. Own up to it and ask forgiveness, rather than try to make any excuses or deny it.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 David Price and the entire Astros staff can use foreign substances during the MF’ing World Series, but some minor leaguer taking adderall is a 50 game suspension. Okay MLB

Okay MLB I don't know why none of the opposing teams didn't try to call them on it. I mean, what's the worst that happens if it fails, they can use foreign substances basically worry free the rest of the game?
