Major League Baseball has announced the finalists for each position in each league for the 2018 Rawlings Gold Glove Awards. Here they are: Pitchers AL: Cory Kluber (Indians), Dallas Keuchel (Astros), Masahiro Tanaka (Yankees) NL: Julio Teheran (Braves), Zack Greinke (Diamondbacks), Clayton Richard (Padres) Catchers AL: Yan Gomes (Indians), Martín Maldonado (Astros), Salvador Pérez (Royals) NL: Buster Posey (Giants), Yadier Molina (Cardinals), Manny Piña (Brewers) First basemen AL: Justin Smoak (Blue Jays), Matt Olson (Athletics), Mitch Moreland (Red Sox) NL: Joey Votto (Reds), Freddie Freeman (Braves), Anthony Rizzo (Cubs) Second basemen AL: Jed Lowrie (Athletics), Ian Kinsler (Red Sox), Rougned Odor (Rangers) NL: DJ LeMahieu (Rockies), Kolten Wong (Cardinals), Javier Báez (Cubs) Third basemen AL: Alex Bregman (Astros), José Ramírez (Indians), Matt Chapman (Athletics) NL: Nolan Arenado (Rockies), Anthony Rendon (Nationals), Travis Shaw (Brewers) Shortstops AL: Marcus Semien (Athletics), Andrelton Simmons (Angels), Francisco Lindor (Indians) NL: Freddy Galvis (Padres), Brandon Crawford (Giants), Nick Ahmed (Diamondbacks) Left fielders AL: Brett Gardner (Yankees), Alex Gordon (Royals), Andrew Benintendi (Red Sox) NL: Christian Yelich (Brewers), Corey Dickerson (Pirates), Adam Duvall (Braves) Center fielders AL: Adam Engel (White Sox), Mike Trout (Angels), Jackie Bradley, Jr. (Red Sox) NL: Billy Hamilton (Reds), Lorenzo Cain (Brewers), Ender Inciarte (Braves) Right fielders AL: Kole Calhoun (Angels), Mookie Betts (Red Sox), Aaron Judge (Yankees) NL: Jon Jay (Diamondbacks), Jason Heyward (Cubs), Nick Markakis (Braves) It’s quite interesting to note that some teams were very heavily represented. G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 The A's hit career years on like every player on their roster. They stood no chance against NYY, HOU or BOS even if they'd won the WC game
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2018 Author Posted October 28, 2018 So two predictions, that's it?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 I'd like to see baseball scrap gold glove winners at every position and just go with 1 winner in the AL and 1 winner in the NL. We don't give out awards for the best starter, middle reliever, LOOGY and closer - we give out an award for the best pitcher. When there's 18 winners of an award each year, it becomes a little meaningless.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 There is a relief award, it's just that nobody cares about it the Fireman of the Year award? It was discontinued in 2011. edit - f*** me, they gave it to Joe Borowski in 2007 when he finished with 45 saves an ERA of 5.07 (4.12 FIP/xFIP). Good lord baseball has changed a lot.

When there's 18 winners of an award each year, it becomes a little meaningless. They could bucket it a lot better that's for sure. I really dislike segregating LF/CF/RF - would be better to just give three gloves to the best outfielders even if they are all CF. Similarly on the infield, it might make sense to have an infield bucket so you can give gloves to two shortstops instead of a second baseman, if appropriate. Does anybody really give a s*** who wins the gold gloves at second base, third base, left field, right field, or first base? Corey Dickerson got hardware this year for LF. Good for the Dickerson family - I'm sure he has worked hard on his defense - but he was probably not even a top ~60 defensive value player in baseball this year.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 The Real Gold Glove Awards American League Outfield: Betts, Bradley, Kepler Infield: Simmons, Lindor, Chapman, Semien Catcher: Perez National League Outfield: Cain, Inciarte, Hamilton Infield: LeMahieu, Rojas, Swanson, Ahmed Catcher: Contreras
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 Ew @ Perez, f*** you. Oh wow, you looked at some nerdy numbers and picked the top guys. Such insight. Maldonado >>>> Perez including framing plus Royals and Perez is Randy Johnson level hideous.
