Buck and Tabby: Jays have a roster crunch. 39 up...and 10 to 12 they have to promote.

I count 2. Wall and maybe Waguespack

poor romo hangs a slider to gurribabip middle-middle

I can't believe I'm asking this, but why do you call him gurribabip?

He's posted a 110 wRC+ with a BABIP of .333. I mean he has some worts in his game, but this kid just got transplanted in a new country and has barely played any baseball the past 2 seasons. The kid's had a pretty damn good season.

Shi Davidi wrote about this also... I don't see no roster crunch at all, lol.

Exactly. Just because 10 guys are rule 5 eligible doesn't mean those 10 guys are MLB ready and deserving of a spot. It's like Hurl said.... maybe 2 of them.

And there's enough dead weight on the roster right now along with surely departing FAs like Solarte and Estrada.... the hint of a roster crunch is just clickbait ********

so with Gurriel looking like the Shortstop next year and possibly beyond....where do you put Bichette? slide him over to 2nd?

I think it's likely we see Gurriel all over the field and Bichette sticking at SS, provided that his offense is good enough to play him of course.

I looked it up and there are a couple other names which might get a hard look. As mentioned Wall and Waguespack. Harris, Pentecost are the 1st round pedigree guys (although I don't see the point), Fat Hector Perez, Jordan Romano & Yennsy Diaz.

Bichette probably is in the minors most of next year.

FSL pitcher of the year, Patrick Murphy and Travis Bergen too

Gurriel UTIL (2B until Biggio gets called up)

Diaz SS

Biggio 2B

Bichette minors all season

To start the year:

2B Drury, SS Gurriel, 3B Diaz

When Vlad comes up:

2B Drury, SS Gurriel, 3B Vlad, UT Diaz

Once Biggio and Bo are ready, then there will be some maneuvering/trades that will need to happen. Gurriel can probably move around (OF too), and Diaz can stay as the utility IF, but Drury might need to be traded, assuming he's any good.

I'm also assuming Tulo is either hurt or traded before the start of the year, as I don't see him playing another inning in Toronto, but I guess we'll see.

I'm not concerned about Murphy. He's had 1 game above A ball and even stashing him in the pen for a year in the majors seems unlikely (maybe a KC, SD, The O's or Florida could try him as a starter). Bergen's numbers were insanely good and he has so little mileage on the arm. Assuming he's got velocity (I honestly don't know much about him), he could get a role in the pen next year. Seems like he'd be a guy that someone would take a chance on in the Rule 5 too. The thing is that there are probably guys like these in every system that isn't the O's. Every year we think there are like 10 guys that will get selected and they end up not (last year people were certain that Pentecost and Rios would be selected). But maybe Buck and Tabby aren't as off on this one as I thought.

Bergen is interesting. Pen arm for sure but he can miss bats. If he, Mayza and Fernandez were the lefty pen arms with one of them on the Buffalo shuttle that wouldn't be too surprising.

I have to agree with Buck for a change. Not a fan of plays like that being overturned, changing it to a single only makes it worse. It's clearly a double in my eyes.

Alright so what do we think of Tellez?

Could he be the starting 1st basemen in 2019

Let's all keep in mind he's riding a BABIP near .500 and has a 2% BB rate.

He has good walk rates in the minors, so not too concerned about that. Obviously no one expects a 190 wRC+ from him next year with inflated babip, but average to slightly above average in his first full season would be a great result (which is roughly what he's projected at).

Stop it omfg, why do you guys always overreact everyone to small sample sizes and red flags.

I’m surprised that Tellez is walking this little though.

Literally not one person in this thread has overreacted or shown any amount of belief in Tellez. Why must you always create these false narratives to suit your need to be a condescending and joyless ****? It's obnoxious and unnecessary.
