The thought process is to see if these guys can be anything in the future or not. They aren't doing anyone any good being on the roster and not getting a chance to pitch especially when wins aren't gonna help the Jays anymore this year

Man Morales bleeds so much baserunning value. It's no wonder his xWOBA is like .100+ points higher, he hits the ball hard constantly but between the shift and the sheer amounts of sure thing doubles that he loses as singles it kills his true offensive output.

Given his speed there's probably a real case for him to be bunting down third against the shift until they stop shifting him. The doubles threat is already mitigated to a degree by his speed, and the chance of a homer is low enough that if he was successful bunting even 50% of the time it would likely be a net gain.

 

If anyone wants to do the math and provide it, that would be great

If Morales would hit ,500 just bunting, he'd be by far the best bunter in major league history, especially considering his speed. He's just better off hitting like he is right now. But if I was him, I'd practice it a little maybe to surprise the defense every 100-150 PAs

Because they want to give everyone a chance, Davis deserves getting a look. They're not waving the white flag but right now winning is probably less important than giving the young guys a chance to prove themselves.

Yes, I want the young guys given ABs as much as possible. In this I am in agreement with Orgfiller. What I thought made sense was PR for Tellez in bottom of the 8th 1 run game. We shall see...
