Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Hey Mike Wilner.. So no such thing as overachievers, underachievers, very talented teams that have underachieved . Less “talented” teams that have overachieved. I will call you on Jays talk and explain why you are wrong. So the 2015 Royals, then. Overachieved massively, then turned to s*** with a similar roster and the same manager. Explanation?

He's young, understands analytics, and has plenty of ties with Canada through his wife and playing career. He had this to say last year: "I think you're a fool if you don't understand the importance of [analytics]," Woodward said. "You can have the smartest people in the world, but if the players don't buy in, it doesn't really factor in."
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 https://www.tsn.ca/five-candidates-for-the-next-blue-jays-manager-1.1181331 No to the first two. I am all Team Schneider.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Schneider is my top choice at the moment

Biggest thing I remember about Woody was a commercial where he was in a canoe dressed as a maiden, being serenaded by a mountie (I think). Then there was something about him being hit in the head, so he'll be fine. Full props for being willing to do that one!
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Why. Won't. Eric. Wedge. DIE ALREADY!!!!!
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 If there is anything that I know from the Kawhi Leonard trade, is that OddsShark is always right. Why. Won't. Eric. Wedge. DIE ALREADY!!!!! Meh. Sure it's not an optimal choice, but its the GM who should be feeding the manager with decent players. If you don't want your manager to make bad choices, don't put bad choices on the 40 man roster.
BTS Community Moderator Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 If the FO thinks Eric Wedge can do a good job implementing their plans, I think they deserve the benefit of the doubt. It would be surprising, but I'm not going to complain about it.

One small benefit of getting their guy Wedge in charge is that puts my mind at ease over that stupid rumour that Shapiro is headed to the Mets.

Yeah I hadn't thought of him but he was a finalist for the Yankees and the Rays tried to get him in the org too.

metafour Verified Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 If there is anything that I know from the Kawhi Leonard trade, is that OddsShark is always right. They also had Khalil Mack going to Green Bay, so this isn't as foolproof as its made out to be. The Gibbons dismissal was leaked months ago. Within that leak, it was also reported that they preferred a younger guy who could speak Spanish. As far as I'm aware, Wedge fits neither of those criteria. Shapiro also fired Wedge in their first stint together in Cleveland, so I'm really not sure why its some foregone conclusion that this is "their guy" that they've been carrying around for 2-3 years now to eventually push into the managerial spot.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 I like that. I was fortunately enough to be at the game yesterday and my kids got to meet Pillar. Gibby (and probably, hopefully? Pillar) will be gone from the Jays soon - but neither will soon be forgotten in the hearts of Jays fans.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Was I not hearing Sandy Alomar Jr for the position? COuld be wrong but thought I heard someone saying they believe he has a good chance. I think he was in the running years ago. Not sure I've heard his name brought up since.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 The fact that John Farrel is on that list tells me all I need to know about how much I trust that list. Unless they want to be even more hated then they are now, that would be the most PR tone deaf move the Jays could ever make.

Slade Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2018 Posted September 28, 2018 Is Stubby Clap on the list cause he's Canadian? I get he was minor league manager of the year in 2017 and spent time with the organization in 2014 and 2015 but this regime haven't really had any ties with him.

He won it again this year, managing the Suprise in the AFL with our spects plus Canadian... that's just a gambling listing, but he's been rumoured by many outlets as a possibility.

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2018 Posted September 28, 2018 FWIW Giles seems to really like it here, let's hope it continues and contributes to rebuilding his value. https://www.thestar.com/sports/bluejays/opinion/2018/09/21/trade-to-blue-jays-career-saver-for-tightly-wound-giles.html
