Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 How about he's old and he can't f***ing throw strikes and he's never thrown 100 IP in a season? Good enough reasons? What? As I said, much of his time missed is due to a bone bruise and a PED suspension. It's not as if he's got a long list of major injuries. We should give him a chance to start with that good change up and command.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 I don’t think anyone from the org has stated Paulino will be a reliever. It made sense to use him out of the pen in Sept since he missed almost the entire season to that point. I’d expect him to start next year unless his health forces him to be a reliever.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 The Phillies are interested in literally every free agent in the market it seems. Would be happy with either Lynn or Happ on reasonable deals, though the latter has stated he's looking for 3 years which might put us out.

If he wants something like 3/40, I'd say go for it. He probably earns to contract in two average years with decent surplus potential. If he wants 3/60 or something, it would probably be a hard pass.

What if he was willing to split the difference at 3/50?
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 What if he was willing to split the difference at 3/50? Tough call. I guess it depends on what Sanchez/Stroman could fetch.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 I'd give Happ 3/50 if that is what it takes. If we can add him and another starter while retaining Stroman and Sanchez then we may have the makings of a respectable rotation.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 I will add that your post is incredibly racist. POC people in baseball deal with enough intersectional and post-colonialism racism and stereotypics already, and then you just casually white-wash a POC person's age and control in the most racist way. All latino pitchers are wild eh? All latino players are older than their listed ages, eh? Pathetic. Delete your account and acknowledge your privilege and make reparations immediately. I f***in' KNEW you were Meg Rowley. Way to out yourself.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 He's going to take a mass 2 year deal. He has 12 teams in on him.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 He's going to take a mass 2 year deal. He has 12 teams in on him. If there's that many teams with significant interest, someone will bite the bullet and give him a 3rd year.

That's nothing like you said earlier... the price is far higher 2 30 is smart. No more.

jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 I'm surprised there hasn't been any talk about Smoak potentially going to the Rockies, apparently they have strong interest

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 I'm surprised there hasn't been any talk about Smoak potentially going to the Rockies, apparently they have strong interest Yeah I saw that on the Score App. Seems like a good fit but I can't imagine he carries a ton of value.

I figured he would have some pretty decent value. He was an All-Star 2 years ago, and was decent last year. He always brings solid defense, and he's also on a great contract. You guys know more about value when it comes to players in baseball(more into NHL, NFL) but I figured Smoak would bring back a solid piece or two.

Value of 1st baseman have really taken a hit the last few years.

CJ Cron is a pretty similar player and was just-nontendered with a ~5M salary. Smoak at 8M won’t return much if anything. Nobody is paying for average 1B these days.

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 Was thinking about the Yanks rotation after the Happ deal. Lefty heavy with him Pax and CC. Tons of great lefties in the division right now. Those 3, Snell, Sale, EdRod Getting a good lefty masher could be fun (not 'make you competitive' fun but funner)

Again not a good comparison at all imo The point is these guys aren't all that much worse than Smoak and are basically let go and picked up for close to peanuts. Smoak might be better but I doubt it means he nets a good return. I hope I'm wrong I'd love to see him traded for an actual prospect.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 Rockies front office is not good. I don’t expect much of anything for Smoak but with the Rox you never know.

If we're getting a C prospect for Smoak, I'd rather just keep him until Tellez forces our hand or something else comes up. The last thing we need is a black hole at 1B all year.
