glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 I think his best position is 2B. It's the one spot where his bat actually looks enticing even if he doesn't show a ton of improvement and from what little defensive metrics he has it appears to be his best position (for whatever that's worth). I'm not high on him at all though. Ideally he's a bench guy who finds 400 ABs sprinkled across 2B/3B/LF and maybe even some 1B with most of those coming from 2B and 3B where his bat actually plays some. He's not a bad guy to have around though given his versatility and the non-zero chance he has to turn into a regular. Seems like we have a whole team's worth of those guys right now and it will be fun to see who can play themselves into something that sticks long term. Yeah unless Shatkins thinks he is going to go Justin Smoak 2017 on the league next year, I really did not like that trade. I'm rooting for Drury and McUpton only because I want to stick it to the Yankees. Otherwise not a fan of either one but hoping they prove me wrong.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 Outside the box thinking, but there is a demand for catchers out there. Jansen to the Braves for ian anderson and teheran? Braves want to dump teherans salary Jays roll with mcguire and man bun behind the dish

P2F Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 Franchise catchers come around once in a blue moon, so there's no way I'd make that move. Why would we be taking on a not inexpensive, s***** asset to give up the superior prospect again?

Anderson is higher ranked as a prospect, 39 on ba compared to 68 for jansen. If thats not enough to take on teherans final contract year, fine Point remains, catchers are at a premium right now, jays could take advantage and get a better supporting cast for vlad
Todd Verified Member Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 I'd also take Anthony Alford off the 40 man roster and put Hector Perez or Yennsy Diaz on the 40 man roster. And if you take those eight players off the roster then you can add other those other names to it.

There might literally be zero pitching prospects I’d trade Jansen for.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 Danny Jansen, projected for 2.3 wins over 90 games is not a franchise catcher. 4 WAR catchers are barely above average. Better trade him for a shittier prospect plus a s***** contract because Baseball America or something - a genius

There might literally be zero pitching prospects I’d trade Jansen for. Agreed. Catcher is the most important position on the diamond and we have a really really promising one under control for quite awhile. I think we need to do some kind of brain study on the guy who's first reaction is "we should definitely trade him"
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 Pitching prospects suck, and Jansen is already projected to be a good player as early as next year. No reason to move him.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 Have to give up something to get something. If the braves come calling with surplus pitchers to deal, want giles+, you work something out lulz

BTS Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2018 Author Posted November 15, 2018 Julio Teheran is apparently available. What would it take to get someone like him? 1-win pitcher owed $12M for 2019. I’d expect him to be pretty much free.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 Zero interest in moving any of the top position prospects for pitching. You lump McGuire in with 'Top position prospects'?
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 Julio Teheran is apparently available. What would it take to get someone like him? First thought is to comp the deal for his new teammate, Kevin Gausman, but it appears that Gausman is worth significantly more on paper.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 You lump McGuire in with 'Top position prospects'? Obviously not, and the Braves aren't giving up Anderson to acquire a projected backup catcher.
LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 You lump McGuire in with 'Top position prospects'? read it again, he's talking about Jansen
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 read it again, he's talking about Jansen Oops. Totally misread that. Retracted. Ya...that would be retarded.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 Danny Jansen, projected for 2.3 wins over 90 games is not a franchise catcher. 4 WAR catchers are barely above average. Better trade him for a shittier prospect plus a s***** contract because Baseball America or something - a genius Also, wasn't Jim one of the first people onto the Jansen bandwagon? Saying he was a darkhorse top prospect a couple of years ago. Surprised he wouldn't milk that for all it's worth, he must really think he is right more often than he is. Jim has the mentality of a stock trader. Buy low on Jansen. Sell "high" on Jansen. The "book value" (outdated prospect ranking) on Anderson is higher. Sell Pillar for whatever. With absolutely no regards to team need or knowledge of the market for these players. I have a particular sensitivity to the catcher spot, we all should, ever since what AA did to it turning it from a position of team strength and depth to Arencibia in eight weeks. It's finally looking good again after 5 years. Luckily the team had Martin but had to pay for him. This team could have 10+ WAR from minimum wage players in positions of scarcity - 3B, SS, 2B, C - by 2020. Basically CF is left and the rest of the diamond can be filled with 30+ year old mashers at a cheap cost because the market has completely disappeared for them. That leaves a ton of FA money for pitching. Let's not f*** this up.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 If my valuation of Jansen and Anderson is incorrect, I apologize. It was just as I said an outside the box idea to take advantage of high catcher demand when Jay's have McGuire and Martin. Agreed those guys are mediocre options.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 Hoping we trade Pillar. There aren't many CFers in FA, netting a useful piece for him would be a wise move IMO. Wouldn't mind seeing Smoak traded as well.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 We didn't have CF options like we do now. When Bautista left we lost a CF option after Pillar. Remember that? Good times.
