You're trying way too hard to make a point that isn't at all true.

First of all, he pitched in 24 games in his first season. It was a dominant showing for an extended period, not just a one week cameo.

In the 'not very good', 2015 season he ended with a 4.22 xFIP, not to mention an absolutely superb postseason run. That's not too bad for a first full season.

The next season, his first full season as a starter, he was one of the top pitchers in baseball and garnered Cy votes.

After a great start to 2017, the blister issues cropped up in a start against the Orioles and it's been a rough road since then. Some blister issues and some pitch mix issues have contributed, but the staff ace that we saw in 2016 still has all of his stuff and we've seen that for stretches this year.

"Stretches" must mean a couple of innings within the odd start. He really has not had a string of starts this year that have been good. No, we don't get to count starts where he walked more people than he K'd but he got lucky and didn't give up much runs.

Sanchez is a very talented pitcher who by necessity has developed a good changeup. There's no reason why his 2016 fastball can come back along with the curve, and combined with the changeup, that's a damn good pitcher.

Let's see what happens in 2019. A season like 2016 or even better would not surprise me.

My God

For his career, he's given up a 70 wRC+ versus his changeup. It's certainly not bad, but it's not on a level where he could throw it really frequently and maintain that effectiveness imo.

and by this you mean 1 start...his first one vs. Tampa. Holy f***. I'm out. Can't do this. No idea why I even tried.

If you would call it a bad start then I don't know how to respond. The blisters cropped up in his next 2 starts.

Because he doesn't throw his change up for strikes, because he can't due to a lack of command for it, hitters simply get in hitters counts and cash in on the fastball

Once they can lay off the change up, it's only a matter of time before that elevated 94 mph fastball is coming.

You are misinterpreting what I said. The Sanchez we have seen this year is below average. Does not mean this will be the 2019 Sanchez. No reason why the 2016 fastball velocity and movement cannot come back, and make the changeup much more effective.

Are you Frenchsoup, Old Friend?

I love the clip when he talks about his swing with De-Ro, amazing.

I don't recall ever seeing this. Wow, that was crazy informative.

f*** off Grant. ****.

Sorry for making you look stupid. Maybe stop making incorrect statements and it won't happen as often.

incorrect statements? I called you a ****. It doesn't get more accurate than that.

If you say so. The fact that you are too stupid to engage in intelligent conversation and instead resort to name calling speaks volumes.

OFFICIAL: We've acquired RHP Julian Merryweather as the player to be named later from Cleveland to complete the trade of 3B Josh Donaldson.

Cue the morons stating that Shatkins are double agents, lol.

Hope Merryweather is the next Kluber so these people feel stupid.

Are you anticipating Merryweather will provide a strong contribution to the club?

Depends on what you mean by strong. Do I think he will provide a greater contribution than a comp pick? 100%. I feel like he could be a #3-4 with a chance to be better than that, starting as soon as next season. Remember that Atkins was the director of player development when Merryweather was drafted and he likely has more insight into him than anyone else would.

Just curious if you are British? I have only ever heard the British use that word to cuss with regularity..

Don't be a ****. Anyone can use that word.

btw, Aussie's like using it too.

Don't think I've ever used the word. Only those that have no clue about how to debate and reason like adults use such invectives.

Well, we can't all be held to your impeccable standard.

Ya. That's why it's used. Cause we can't articulate ourselves.

If we only received a bag of used, dirty baseballs in return for Donaldson, since he was a complete no-show for Cleveland vs the Astros, would that still have given us the better part of the deal?!?!?

Huh? We got Merryweather for JD, better than a comp pick.

BA writeup after 2017 season

Following a breakout 2016 season, Merryweather carried that momentum into 2017. After a strong start to the season with Double-A Akron, he was promoted to Triple-A at the end of May. While Merryweather's results suffered down the stretch with the Clippers, his stuff and peripherals remained strong. Merryweather has the stuff to start, but still is learning some of the finer points of pitching. His fastball sits in the mid 90s and regularly reaches 97 mph. His changeup can be an above-average pitch with fading action, but he will need to tighten the pitch up to get hitters to chase it more often. He throws both a curveball and a slider, which can be average offerings. He does a good job of using his 6-foot-4 frame to his advantage and works well down in the strike zone to create groundouts. He throws a lot of strikes and repeats his delivery well. Merryweather has the potential to be a starter in the big leagues, but he will be 26 on Opening Day and breaking into the Indians' already crowded rotation is no easy task. He'll start 2018 back at Columbus and have a chance to pitch his way into the mix in Cleveland.

Notes

I left Merryweather off of Cleveland’s offseason list entirely because I had reports from scouts who thought he was succeeding as a 24-year-old in A-ball due to deception, a good changeup, and little else. Turns out that was foolish. Merryweather is 25 but he’s pitched his way to Columbus and he carved up one of the more talented lineups in the International League yesterday, garnering swings and misses with all three pitches. He’s deceptive, athletic, touched 95 several times, flashed a plus curveball and changeup, and despite some issues timing all the moving parts of his delivery, he threw lots of strikes. There are scouts who think he fits better in relief, but he has mid-rotation stuff.

Better percentile than any f***ing 2nd round sandwich pick at 75-80

Just making the joke that if we didn’t get what we got, and had only received a bag of trash, then we still would have done better than what the Indians got.
