PTBNL to “have value”? Really hope Lindor was informed of this deal or he could be some PO’d when he finds out his 2019 home games will be at the Rogers Centre.

Don't be obtuse, it's all about production, route for the Indians.

One player rumored to be headed to Toronto in Josh Donaldson deal is right-hander Julian Merryweather, who needed Tommy John surgery in ST. He's on the 40-man roster and pitched at Class AA Akron-Triple-A Columbus in 2017.

Do we think JD will ever be on the level of excellence?

Pros: the first Jays MVP in nearly 30 years, as good a 3 year period as anyone, driving force in the first playoff team in over 20 years.

Cons: this year including how his exit has been handled, only 3+1 years with the Jays.

Donaldson had blamed the Jays for making him do sprints, when he thought he was not physically ready. I believe that was when he totally blew out his leg.

This sounds like sour grapes to me. JD should have taken the FO offer in the winter for the extension, he is pissed he didn't, and now he is an Indian.

However a strong finish to the season, and maybe every team forgets 2018 and he still lands a big FA contract. Plus a strong finish gets the Jays a couple of very good prospects?

After waiting all season to see what they're going to do with JD, of course we may be waiting until Februrary to find out the return.

It should be announced after the WS.

Although maybe there is a deal such as the Jays get to choose from players Cleveland is sending to the AFL?

Scout the players down there, and make the choice?

I don't know why Josh would have sour grapes. He had an injury that should have taken 5 or 6 weeks to heal. The team rushed him back so they could trade him and he re-injured himself and it cost him 3 months. Sure it's his walk year, but really what did he lose?

You don’t know that this is true.

it was obv JD was playing injured in April/May. it was discussed that JD was the one forcing the issue, it being his walk year. if the jays in fact mismanaged his recovery, he has every right to be pissed.

What was his injury in April? Was it a leg issue?

It's what Josh is suggesting.

Yeah. I don’t think a player frustrated about losing over $100M is a reliable narrator in this case.

Well, Vladdy had got to be relieved by this outcome. Good on Shapiro in showing confidence in your franchise player. Donaldson is broken down physically, but we'll see.

So, the same people complaining that this FO is too risk averse are apparently simultaneously accusing them of being impatient and reckless with Donaldson.

Jesus Christ.

Any predictions on what kind of contract he might get this offseason? Probably depends how he performs in the next couple months.

I'm gonna guess 3/75 and he doesn't sign until near ST.

Wow! You figure he gets that much AAV and term, considering his injuries?I was thinking he'd be lucky to get a one year prove it deal for around $15 million.

Maybe an Edwin level contract?

The idea that Shatkins is risk averse is dumb. No GM is going to take significant risks in a rebuild phase.

TBF those two statements are mutually exclusive. Shapiro’s history and attitude suggests he is risk averse, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
