Elite arm but garbage mindset (Daniel Bard 2.0).

So is Giles (making $4.6 million this season) a non-tender candidate for 2019 ?!

No.

I hope you are right but we will have to wait and see. The organization definitely should have stood against the SJW crowd and kept Osuna!

He's right, they're not going to dump the two years of control remaining in that arm even if he struggles for the rest of '18, not a chance.

If they haven't punted Biagini into the Sun then there's no way they do it to Giles.

Nice to see stupidity levels are hitting record highs around here these days.

Yup. 1 game samples are the norm for judging trade returns from their favorite Mexican woman-beating closer.

There's no way the org non tenders Giles unless he gets hurt and figures to miss all of 2019.

If he performs like he normally does next season, then he's a prime trade chip.

Giles has given up at least 1 run in every appearance so far. (3 games). Still a small sample size, however not the best way to join a new team

Everyone knows that it's only one game. What's funny is that the 'shittiness' that some are saying Giles has an abundance of, showed up so early as a Blue Jay. Some see it as poetic justice even if it isn't reality. And conversely, those that think that Giles is every bit as good as Osuna can't post fast enough how it's only 1 game, to defuse the poor outing.

The reality...Giles has tremendous physical ability.....looks like it's all mental with him. And yes, him being a gascan was funny. But only because this season has been a lost cause for a while so I look for things to laugh about.

Doesn't make anything I said untrue either.

General shittiness is basically recency bias. Just because the 1st 3 outings he's been "bad", is no more an indication of his overall skill than if his 1st 3 appearances were 9 up 9 down with 9 Ks.

So Hauschild hasn't got rekt yet, we have a diamond in the rough.

He gets a lot of grounders, decent strikeout numbers, and aside from 2017 keeps the walks reasonable. His numbers the last few years have been blown up a little in the PCL. He may have more potential that we give him credit for, although still probably back end of the rotation best case.

But the "general shittiness" was being stated before any of his 3 outings. It was more like, 2 of his last 3 years have been pretty mediocre.

His '14, '15, '17 were glorious. So he is a little Jekyll & Hyde-ish.

Umpiring has never been worse in the history of the MLB and getting shittier by the day. Don't know who is responsible or why this trend is continuing downward, but something clearly has to be done.

It has absolutely been worse in the past, the increase in data and video availability just lets us see more of the bad calls today.

I don't think that's a fair statement necessarily. We have access to technology now that wasn't available before...so we can clearly see calls that are missed...whereas in years gone by, the eye test might have us believing that the ump was right.

What's the answer? More instant replay or automated calls (strike/ball, safe/out, fair/foul)?

I disagree. The foul tip that clearly bounced in the Teo AB would rarely be missed. The aspect that is abundantly clear is the way umps today look for confrontation instead of walking away during the player's venting period. Let the game be dictated by the players like it once was and should be. It's all about me nowadays.

Giles was not bad in his first two outings. He was awful last night. That's one game. It's insane to ignore many years of data and point to one f'n game.

What is it with you using single events to define entire seasons? I remember a time David Segui popped a ball into the stands foul, the 3B bent over the wall to pick the ball up off the floor and then showed it to the ump and was given the out call.

Those foul tip calls are missed all the time. Are you new?

I've been watching baseball on a daily basis for over 35 f***ing years slant fin. Go find me the data that proves foul tips in the dirt were missed at the same rate they are today. Secondly, do you have nothing to say regarding the second part of the post regarding umps being confrontational? Am I new? Lol, go f*** yourself s*** stain.

WTF does that Segui play where the ball wasn't visible to anybody on the field have to do with a ball that bounced six inches in front of home plate?
