I'm excited to see what Paulino can do in the rotation and I hope he gets an extended audition this season. I get that he's gone through a PED suspension, but he was the 44th ranked prospect in baseball before 2017 and it seems like he still has the solid stuff and control that helped him to achieve that rank. He could be the real prize in this trade if he shows that the suspension was just a blip on the radar.

Yes. There's a decent chance that a healthy Paulino is in the rotation to start 2019, and his numbers support him having a good chance to succeed as at least a back of the rotation type. I'm looking forward to seeing him.

Trigger warning: Sheryl Ring triggers me. She's so, so stupid.

And if you read the replies, you'll find that she won't root for the A's because they traded for Familia. Who had his case dismissed because he didn't lay a hand on his wife.

Quintessential virtue signalling.

Can we please just ignore her on this board?

Well that's no fun!

I said good minor league starter as in good prospect. Paulino could be legit if he figures his control out (Big if but hey)

Paulino's never had control issues, Perez is the one who could really benefit from fewer walks.

Sure it is, if I want to read the ramblings of a moron, I can search them out on my own. I read something of hers once, and made the decision that my time is better spent contemplating the inner thoughts of my pocket lint. I'm an extremely socially liberal person up until the point that you become self-parody.

You might think you're extreme, but if you don't have time for Ms. Mr. Sheryl Ring, then you are demonstrably not extreme. Poser.

It's Mrs. Sheryl Ring, you bigot! She's married.

Hey John, Phillies get Wilson Ramos

I mean is this really a prediction if they are only team linked to him. His hamstring injury is a lot scarier than the Rays are making it sound. The bullpen session he caught and felt good is a really cute story. Rays are desperately trying to move him for something interesting at this point.

Pretty amazing how stupid some people are...seems to be a growing issue in today's society as we seem to be getting dumber.

Hi, Astros fan here. Couple questions about Osuna

1. What is with all the blown saves and relatively high ERA for a supposed elite closer? Is he consistent enough to be mentioned in the same breath as Britton, Jansen, Chapman, etc?

2. What was caught on tape that caused the Blue Jays to be done and dusted with him? 75 games obviously means something concrete. I can't see myself rooting for the guy, but know he's a talent and that makes people look past things.

1. Don't look at ERA for pitchers. Osuna is one of the top closers in the game, and he's only 23. He does however have some anxiety issues (which may or may not be related to a very "complicated" off field life). I would probably put Chapman, Kimbrel, Jansen, Miller in a top tier, with guys like Davis, Britton, Osuna, Giles, Allen in the next tier. You basically traded for a pitcher equal to Giles, but with an extra year of control and a fresh start for both. As far as I know, there's been no clubhouse issues with Osuna at all. Everyone seems to really like him.

2. We don't know exactly what was on tape. There's reports all the way from it being fairly minor to shocking, although I think if it was the latter MLB would have suspended him much longer.

Massive talent, young, awesome ballplayer. Everyone is in the dark as to what transpirred but if they accepted their suspension at a longer term than Reyes or Chapman the time usually fits the crime

Appreciate it. I don't think any Houston fan would put Giles in the top 2 tiers of closers, it's not just a head problem his control has issues and he often squeeks out of innings (moreso than a clean 1-2-3). Good luck, although I can't see him being of use by the time ya'll can compete with BOS and NYY.

Well hopefully a year from now the Jays trade him for a nice haul of prospects

Control issues? His advanced numbers would suggest that's not been the case. Hell his basic bitch stats say that as well. He walked 3 batters in 30 innings this year. I have seen Pitchers walk 3 batters in 1 inning for this team this year.

Maybe he meant command? That's one thing about Osuna; he has elite command.

He's talking about Giles.

He knows, he's just pointing out that Osuna is someone with elite command whereas the Astros fan might not agree that Giles has that.

Gotcha's, just woke from a nap... :P

Every time I have seen Giles, he's pumping fastballs down the middle on first pitches and when he falls behind. He's rather predictable and doesn't pitch to the corners very much. Hopefully Russ Martin can help with that.

He also throws 99-100 consistently and has an outrageous breaking ball, I'm not too worried with his sequencing as long as he can get strikes when he needs to.

lol yep, we were all thinking of the 2-3 stud prospects this club would get. Instead they got, well, lol nothing.

Well, the Stros weren't trading Whitley, Tucker or Yordan for Osuna and I don't blame them. I wouldn't either even if Osuna had a clean record.

The Dodgers and Red Sox front office have both publicly suggested that an Osuna trade was never a consideration for them.
