The guy to keep an eye on outside of the top 10 rounds is Kameron Guangorena. Rank 104 guy on MLB's list that the Jays got in the 36th round. HS catcher.

Guangorena made a name for himself on the summer showcase circuit, albeit with a different last name. He was Ojeda then, but changed it to Guangorena to honor his stepfather, who has been an integral part of the family. The name change did nothing to alter the California high schooler's evaluation as one of the most athletic catchers in the Draft class. A left-handed hitter, Guangorena can really impact the baseball, showing the ability to make consistent hard contact and the chance to hit for both average and power. He runs very well, especially for a catcher, with above-average run times down the line. Defensively, he has a plus arm and consistently shows excellent pop times. The rest of his defensive game, receiving and blocking, need work, but many feel his athleticism will help him improve in those areas in the future. High school catchers takes patience from a development standpoint, but Guangorena's offensive tools, arm and athleticism are bound to intrigue teams in the top five rounds. Any team considering taking him will have to convince him to forego his commitment to Cal State Fullerton.

Other high school players drafted between rounds 11-40:

Round 21 | Kobby Lopez - LHP

Round 27 | Kyle Luckham - RHP

Round 35 | Damiano Palmegiani - 3B

Round 38 | Francisco Ruiz - C

Round 39 | Cole Beverlin - RHP

there was the newspaper article Monday night saying that Kloffenstein had agreed to a big overslot deal with the Jays $2.5million

http://www.star-telegram.com/sports/college/big-12/texas-christian-university/article212580294.html

Per The Star-Telegram…

Top TCU recruit Adam Kloffenstein, a right-handed pitcher from Magnolia High School, was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays with the No. 88 overall pick in the third round of the major league draft Tuesday afternoon.

Two sources confirmed the Blue Jays are offering Kloffenstein a first-round level signing bonus of about $2.5 million, and he will forgo his commitment to TCU.

The slotted amount for the No. 88 spot is just over $650,000. The Blue Jays are offering almost $2 million more than that.

Guangorena isn't signing. He's there as a backup in case some freak occurrence happens with Kloffenstein.

That's what I read too. He's a backup plan if anything goes wrong in the Groshans/Kloffenstein package deal. A smart move by Shatkins. Do we expect Groshans to sign for $1M underslot?

Pretty sure Kloffenstein confirmed it on his twitter page

15th round Troy Watson already changed his twitter profile to "Pitcher for Toronto Blue Jays organization"

I've seen a lot of them do that. Doesn't necessarily mean anything, but it can't be a bad sign.

You're right it's not confirmation but not like someone would do that if they didn't have a deal in place.

Sure they would. Kids posts stupid s*** on social media every second of every day.

There is no trading draft picks but the Jays effectively traded down from the number 12 spot for two picks in the 25-30 range.

And with pre draft agreements players basically tell teams don't draft me unless you are giving me this amount of money so that they slide to certain picks in the draft.

Well, sure, but it's literally no different than the majority of fans basing the results of their team's draft off of various industry mock drafts. The exercise above is really just an extension of that lol.

Anyway, I posted this just to show that the Jays did really well relative to their peers. All of the teams above them had more draft picks to work with, which definitely skews the results.

But yeah, I mean, it's kind of pointless. At the end of the day, only time and development will tell how the scouting department actually did here.

It's a better exercise after the signing deadline.. right now it just gives a bunch of points to the Rockies for drafting Kumar Rocker in the last round of the draft (who they won't sign)

Blue Jays Agree To Terms With Jordan Groshans, Adam Kloffenstein

By Jeff Todd | June 12, 2018 at 10:50am CDT

The Blue Jays have reportedly agreed to terms with top draft choice Jordan Groshans and third-rounder Adam Kloffenstein. The duo is expected to command a major portion of the team’s overall draft pool.

Stefan Stevenson of the Star-Telegram reported Kloffenstein’s agreement to a bonus in the $2.5MM range, though the exact number is not yet known. Meanwhile, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reported that the team had sorted bonus values out on draft night with both players. It’s still unknown just what Groshans will sign for, but Jon Heyman of Fan Rag tweets that there is now a deal in place with the first-rounder.

Making this pair of additions work was clearly the key to the Toronto draft strategy. Groshans was taken with the 12th overall pick, which comes with a $4,200,900 allocation. Kloffenstein went 88th, at a $652,900 slot, meaning the team needed to set aside close to $2MM of pool availability from other picks in order to sort the money out.

Groshans, a Kansas commit who plays on the left side of the infield, topped out at 28th in pre-draft rankings. Fangraphs put him there, but was the only outlet to tab him as among the top thirty players eligible for selection. Groshans is said to have interesting power upside and an “electric” overall set of tools, but also still a few things to iron out as a pro.

As for Kloffenstein, he’s a righty who had been committed to play his college ball at TCU. As Davidi details in his story, Kloffenstein had an interesting draft experience amidst uncertainty as to whether any team would meet his bonus request. In the end, he’ll take a deal to join the same organization as his neighbor and friend. Kloffenstein’s highest grade came from Baseball America, which cited the big-framed hurler’s recent strides and remaining projectability.

Yes but he's not really a risk of not signing

Have you heard any thing about him signing?

From the sounds of it the jays spend half they money on two players.

And are the blue jays connected to any other international free agent

besides Orelvis Martinez | Rank: 4?

Up until yesterday Griffin Conine and his Duke team were still playing in the College baseball playoffs. Why would we have heard anything when he is supposed to still be concentrating on playing? The same would apply to all the College drafted players that are still playing.
