I wonder if all these Texas kids were big Rangers fans during the back to back ALDS matchups in 2015/2016. They would have been like 15 years old at the time, probably hated the Jays. f*** you Texas

I'm loving this draft. Drafting HS teammates makes both of them that much easier to sign, great creativity by the FO.

But but but....... we could've had Brady Singer!

$2.5 Mil is more than Pearson got. Guessing the Jays are one of the teams who see him a a Kopech type of guy?

TLDR

Opinions all over the place, with low end considering him an 88-91mph backend starter and high end projecting him as a hard-throwing stud with shades of Michael Kopech.

Full Report

Kloffenstein might be in the mid to late first round on some teams' boards. What you think of him depends largely on when you went in to see him as, at times, he's been 88-92 with a delivery scouts don't like and, at others, into the mid-90s with great command and polished secondary stuff. He has size and is young for the class, so if teams who seek those things are also teams who saw Kloffenstein at his best, they might be on him late in the first round.

I'm just saying jays pass on a lot of good players. For example in the first round the jays drafted a guy that was raked 31st overall.

Passing on a lot of good pitchers. Raked higher then him. And if you know me I'm a prospects guy.

And it's usually for the jays to sign players as the draft is going on.

"Prospects guy"

I laughed. I don't think that's what anyone thinks of you as.

Callis and Mayo like the pick. Middle infield high school guy. They say the Jays wouldn't have picked him here if they didn't think they could sign him.

Rank 143 on MLB Top 200.

Addison Barger with our 6th round pick from King HS, Tampa.

#143 ranked in MLB.com and #178 on BA 500.

High school heavy draft so far. Planning for way down the line when our Vlad and Bo's of the world are ready to turn over.

Jays take Nick Podkul in the 7th

The Notre Dame second baseman hit .312 with a .433 on-base percentage and .525 slugging percentage this year -- leading the Fighting Irish in all three slash line categories -- while adding eight home runs and nine stolen bases in 11 tries. Podkul doesn't wow you with his tools, but he's hit in the ACC, he has a good feel for the game, and he's a solid defender.

This year’s Kevin Smith?

Little bit on Conine I saw in Klaws chat.

Bret: Obviously one can’t ignore the past season when evaluating him, but what was Griffin Conine’s scouting report a year ago at this time? What are the odds the Jays can get him back to that?

Keith Law: Clear top 10 pick coming out of the Cape. Then he punched out 70 times this spring.

I read he tried to hit everything in the air this spring, which resulted in some big holes in his swing. It's an interesting take as it sounds like with some adjustments, he could be a steal.

Joey Murray from Kent State in the 8th round. Stats wise one of the best pitchers in all of college ball, but sits high 80's-low 90's with his fastball.

Zach Watson stands out as I browse through the best available profiles, would be nice to see us add an athletic CF prospect.

Draft eligible sophomore has leverage of going back for his Junior year and back in the draft next year. Don’t see how it would work in our budget. Its already looking pretty tight.

If I was Atkins, I would take Oregon State pitcher Luke Heimlich as a punt pick.
That's not happening
