Hurl - what % of NBA and NHL athletes do you think are using PED's?

cocaine is the Drug of choice in the NHL and they claim that they are testing everyone for that yet no one gets caught. So I would say you'd be stupid not to be using when the testing is that bad. I know that there are retired players (Laraque was one)that say 50%.

George Karl says NBA has a steroid problem so I assume it is being used frequently. No one will care if they get caught for it anyway. It's not America's Game.

That pisses me off that baseball is the only sport being held to the flames.

I feel like if it came out that piles of hockey players are using cocaine and PED's that it would be a massive "thing" in Canada. It's Canada's game.

Because he's been doing it forever like most. If anyone thinks it's under 30% using still they are really ignorant to professional sports.

Can someone smart explain how this works. He's been taking PEDs for a long time and using this masking agent to cover it up. I'll assume he's been tested multiple times over the past 15 years...how do they just now pick up on the masking agent? Does it work and leave the system quickly?

This makes sense.

It's a year in which MLB must ensure that a small market team like Seattle must not make the playoffs. Angels Must be in the WC with the Dodgers not doing well

Very smart straregic move.

I'm assuming they have positive drug tests on a 100 percent of the players and only throw those under the bus that make sense strategically in maximizing profits and revenue

Every single professional athlete takes performance enhancing supplements, the majority of which are allowed. Some just go further and take banned stuff too.

I'll also point out that cocaine is a PED for a sport like hockey. Increased reaction time and stamina, boosted confidence and aggression.

There are people creating new masking agents every day. It is a totally different test for Duiretics so it's probably cost (and not really caring as steroids are good for sports and pose zero harm to anyone using properly. I know Travis Demiritte got nailed for them back in 2015 which I think was the first year they were testing for it.

Wouldn't they just take an amphetamine instead of cocaine?

It would be refreshing to see a player own it for once.

You know, I like Verlander but I sure wish players would get off their high horses, especially when they themselves probably aren't innocent.

Someone dug up a tweet of his 5 years ago where he was making excuses for then teammate Jhonny Peralta failing a steroid test.

Hipocrisy confirmed

It seems so sketchy that he doesn't say what ailment he was taking Furosemide for. Seems like he's hiding something.

LOL, you made me spit my coffee

Seems like a perfect opportunity for Bauer to weigh on Verlander's increased spin.

Voiding a players MLB contract, may get the players to stop using PED. Make them a FA at the teams request.

Giving teams $10s of millions in incentives for getting detectable banned substances into a sunk cost’s body seems like a bad idea.

Quirky thing about this is the Mariners kind of caught a break, in that Cano just broke his hand and had surgery yesterday, he was likely going to miss 60 games, regardless. Thing is if they did make the playoffs, he's ineligible.

Other than Andy Pettite, I can't think of another player who has.

Pettitte might be the last guy that had openly confessed, lots of players before his time admitted to it, amphetamines, coke, etc...

He was appealing the case. Once his hand was broke it became a pretty easy decision I would imagine to drop the appeal.

I don't know about easy, as he doesn't draw a paycheck while being suspended. That's a considerable amount of money, plus a potential playoff share (however unlikely).

So instead of $240M he's going to about $228M. Damn, I think we should start a fundraising campaign. I hope he can still send his kids to college and feed his family.

Our oldest daughter in about 2005 said most of her highschool senior football players were on PEDS!
