glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2018 Posted February 14, 2018 Who so far is in the best shape of their lives? Clearly not Tulo.
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 14, 2018 Posted February 14, 2018 Tulo hurt already lol Bone spur issues in his ankle on February 14th. Surely this is fine and there is nothing to see here. Everything is fine.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2018 Posted February 14, 2018 "Gibbons said Tulo has been dealing with a bone spur in his heel. Doesn't believe it'll be an issue this spring" Oh yeah, I mean, it's not like Tulo has a long history of leg injuries. Nothing to see here.
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 14, 2018 Posted February 14, 2018 Who so far is in the best shape of their lives? Clearly not Tulo. My three top picks for those stories: Sanchez, Travis, Morales
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2018 Posted February 14, 2018 At least this year no one has unrealistic expectations of Tulo being a 5 WAR player.

Thank god we have Diaz and Solarte this year because either one may actually be better than Tulo anyway. It is so nice that we are hearing about Tulo being injured literally day one and I don't have to look forward to Goins and Barney playing 100 games each.

Acquiring actual depth behind the two glass men was huge. It should have happened sooner, but at least it happened.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2018 Posted February 14, 2018 Borucki one of the guys to watch this ST

Yup, as I said in the other thread, I'm betting Diaz/Solarte end up with near everyday plate appearances by the end of the season. Tulo looks toast, and Travis has been hurt every year for four straight years. The only downside is we might see a lot of Gift as a back up, but whatever.
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 14, 2018 Posted February 14, 2018 So what's everyone's early pen prediction? I'm feeling: Osuna Biagini Loup Tepera Barnes Petricka Breslow Pretty gross
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2018 Posted February 14, 2018 I think there is upside in Barnes and Tepera and that Biagini will be good if he focuses on the pen. But its certainly nothing you could classify as 'shut down'
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2018 Posted February 14, 2018 So what's everyone's early pen prediction? I'm feeling: Osuna Biagini Loup Tepera Barnes Petricka Breslow Pretty gross Osuna Biagini Loup Tepera Barnes Mayza Axford
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 14, 2018 Posted February 14, 2018 Osuna Biagini Loup Tepera Barnes Mayza Axford I could see Axford throwing well in spring and earning a spot. I do hope Breslow looks good in ST and gets the second LHP spot over the kids. They have options, and can be kept as AAA depth, and Breslow is still a perfectly cromulent LOOGY. Edit: I take it back. Breslow is much worse than I thought he was. I thought he had destroyed lefties the last few years, but he has decidedly not.

AledmysDiaz Verified Member Posted February 14, 2018 Posted February 14, 2018 Jordan Romano is my pick to make it to the Pen out of Spring Training.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2018 Posted February 14, 2018 My prediction is that Taylor Guerrieri makes the team as a reliever and does well if he can stay healthy.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2018 Posted February 14, 2018 Osuna Biagini Loup Tepera Barnes Petricka Ramirez
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 14, 2018 Posted February 14, 2018 My prediction is that Taylor Guerrieri makes the team as a reliever and does well if he can stay healthy. I hope this happens. He’s my favourite of the scrap heap pickups.

That's a lot of guys on the 40 in the minors though (I hate relievers on the 40 and not in the majors). Obviously you send Pannone and Borucki down to start if they don't make the club...but I think you just cut Mayza and Dermody if they don't make it. For the RHP, I'm not sure who I give the pass to. Ramirez has spent so little time pitching, and was unhittable in a SSS last season that I think he gets a shot in the pen and if he doesn't he's the first up. Almost the entire team has options remaining, so we can work the s*** out of the pen if choose.

The only relievers out of options are Loup and the 3 veteran minor league signings with spring training invites. We can rotate players to keep them fresh and use people who are in form. My pick for this year's Leone (i.e. best of the rest) is Ramirez.
