Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 22 homers last year, perhaps Shatkins thinks his power can help.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 Hmm not sure how to feel about this trade, what do the fangraph gurus say?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 Hopefully this trade means they are spending money on a starter pushing Biagini into the pen where we can easily adsorb the loss of Leone. I really would have liked to see what Greene could have done in a reliever role. He looks like Sanchez 2.0

Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 I don't mind losing Greene at all. Another solid move and this teams' depth is becoming quite strong.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 Grichuk had a 94 wRC+ in 2017 and 103 wRC+ in 2016. He was worth 1.4 WAR in 2017 and 2.2 WAR in 2016.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 I don't think this means Carrera is gone. 1B - Smoak DH - Morales OF - Pillar/Pearce/Granderson/Grichuk/Carrera With a healthy lineup, we probably just see Diaz and Hernandez start in AAA. But probably Travis and/or Tulowitzki will break a femur in ST, and there's no glut at all.

Take the remaining money and sign Lynn + a bullpen flyer.

DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 Still have money to add an Arm no?
Hipfan Verified Member Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 If Grichuk doesn't improve the Jays outfield still looks pretty gross. If he can produce 2.5-3 WAR and the Pearce/Granderson combo can do the same, it will be a passable OF, with Teoscar available for depth (or replacing Pearce as a platoon with Grandy?). Still, they Jays don't have any really great offensive players anymore, other than Donaldson. Smoak could be a difference maker, but I'm not sold on last season yet. I really think Cain would have been a good addition to the team, but that's clearly not happening now.
AledmysDiaz Verified Member Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 I'm surprised we couldn't get more for Leone considering he was worth 1.5 WAR last year, and reliever value is through the roof.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 Holy f***. That’s impressive. Not impressive per say, but a decent OF option with power.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 With the price of relief arms on the market, I think we gave up far too much. Leone is coming off of a great season and Greene has the potential to be a dominant relief arm. Grichuk is barely a starting calibre outfielder, if at all, in my opinion. Its definitely more than I would have thought it would cost to get Randy. It does help that I have zero faith that Greene will turn into anything, even in the BP... but still seems expensive. I am excited about what our team can do with Grichuk tho. Hope for some magic! I’m a bit surprised anyone thinks this is an overpayment. Greene profiles as a reliever and Leone is a non elite reliever who has as many negative WAR seasons as positive ones. Grichuk isn’t exactly an exciting acquisition but it hasn’t harmed the mid to long term team at all.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 This also means that if one of Hernandez or Alford establish themselves this season, then Carrera is likely gone.

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 Leon is the one that hurts to loose but i am with BTS that i don't have much value on Greene(I could be wrong and knowing i agree with BTS i likely am) but I think he could be 2.5WAR player for us.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 Great bat to roll the dice on. Grichuk has serious power, is still young and could play all three outfield positions. Still some unrealized potential. Wouldn't shock me if he hits 30 + home runs playing half of his games at the Rogers Centre. If he could somehow fix his K/BB rate, tinkers a bit with his swing, he could take that next step possibly. Even if he doesn't, he's likely still a 2 WAR player who provides pop from an OF corner. He's only one year older than Aaron Judge.
Shart Verified Member Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 Not impressive per say, but a decent OF option with power. He’s an upgrade over Joey Bats.

Noname ducks come out of the woodwork every year to become good relievers like Leone did last year. And they usually become s*** the year after.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 I could see a trade happening. Pearce, Morales or even Pillar could be shopped at this point.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 He’s an upgrade over Joey Bats. That's a pathetically low threshold.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 If that's the case then Buffalo is going to have one hell of an OF. Alford, Pompey and Hernandez. Good!
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 I could see a trade happening. Pearce, Morales or even Pillar could be shopped at this point. I think Pearce is most likely to be traded unless the Giants are willing to offer something good for Pillar (they’re looking for a defensive CF).
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 Will be interesting to see what the Cards development system does with Greene. Will he become a true Card?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 We've talked about Grichuk before - but didn't he have a lingering thumb injury or something last year that hampered his offense? As he proved in 2016, he only needs to post a wRC+ of 100-110 to be a valuable starting OFer. At age 26, we can certainly hope the best is yet to come.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2018 Author Posted January 19, 2018 At the very least we have enviable depth all over the diamond. Quality backups at most positions that should be passable or more (Solarte, Diaz, Pearce), and prospects who will be in the high minors that have serious upside (Alford, Teoscar, Jansen).
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 I could see a trade happening. Pearce, Morales or even Pillar could be shopped at this point. Royals losing Hosmer might be our only hope for any team to take Morales for less than eating 50% of his salary and still think everyone would pass.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 Pillar bobblehead day is set no reason to trade him lol. Although his body i think would not age as well as other seeing as he has been beat up on turf the last few years so it might be time to sell off
