Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 Gurriel Jr. done for the rest of the season with a grade 2 hammy strain. Sanchez either having surgery or about to for that finger.

CanuckofChicago Verified Member Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 Anyone read this good piece on Nikki Huffman? Never knew much about her. The funny part of the article is the banter between her and Devon Travis. Of course, this article was immediately overshadowed by the news of Gibbons not returning in 2019. https://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/nikki-huffman-toronto-blue-jays-trainer-profile/

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 It honestly feels like this is all his decision, though.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 It honestly feels like this is all his decision, though. Just like it was completely AA's decision to walk away Shatkins is good
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 It honestly feels like this is all his decision, though. That's what I thought as well, but in his press conference he mentioned that he felt he would be a great fit for a rebuilding team and that he still wants to manage, so not sure about that. He did a really good job adapting to the new front office (so much so that I wouldn't have minded if he stayed through the rebuild), but might be Shatkins wanting a younger, more analytic guy in that spot.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2018 Author Posted September 26, 2018 His knees have destroyed his career, wouldn’t be surprised if both Diaz and Drury make next year’s 25 man over Travis.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 Travis is a good DFA candidate at this point.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 Travis is a good DFA candidate at this point. No need to DFA, he has options. Unless you want him off the 40 man? Seems like there's other fat to cut imo.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 Keep Travis in AAA next year. He’s cheap depth. But yeah, he’s done as an everyday player. Injuries destroyed him.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 A real shame. Oh well, I'm excited for the Biggio era.
metafour Verified Member Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 [ wouldn’t be surprised if both Diaz and Drury make next year’s 25 man over Travis. You say this as if its a "surprise" or something. Diaz is obviously better than Travis at this point and can play SS, so he's definitely on the team over him. Drury is a guy they like a lot and he will absolutely get the chance to prove himself over a failed experiment from the last regime.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 On second thought, the drawback to keeping Travis and optioning him is that AAA is going to be stacked next year, and you don't want Travis taking AB's/2B reps away from Biggio. So maybe he is a non tender candidate after all. He certainly should not be starting in the big leagues, and he has no use as a utility player since he only plays 2B. Maybe they will try him at other spots and hope his bat comes back? Seems like a long shot but 2019 is a year of throwing s*** at a wall. Ideal infield next year assuming no big acquisitions is Diaz at third, Gurriel at short (only because they seem to want him there), and Drury at second. If Tulo is healthy and they actually keep him, then that complicates things, but I don't think he plays another game for the Jays.

There are a lot of options, and many things can happen between now and next April. Jays make a trade, someone gets hurt, dead, jailed, whatever. Maybe a few guys like Travis and Morales get DFA'ed solely to make room for potential rule 5 losses.
