True, but stating JD Martinez is more valuable than Mookie Betts keeps him close.

Wow, glad I missed that or I would likely have choked on my dinner

That's what this front office covets. Hard hits, barrels, exit velocity, and all that jazz. The problem is they haven't been able to find hitters who have that profile plus ability to get on base. Once that happens, then we will see some results.

That's just it, they have enough of 2 of the 3 true outcomes (HR and Ks), just need to up that 3rd one.

And, of course, put out the dumpster fire of a rotation, stop being a s***** baserunning team (dead last by a long shot, nearly 25 runs given away, 29th place team has -13.6), stop being a s***** defensive team (2nd last next to Baltimore, -52 runs).

Baserunning and defense alone count for 77 runs given away.....

I guess it's not worth that much considering all the losing.

I mean, about 15% separates 1st from last on that chart, but it's a metric that Shatkinds obviously believes in...

I'm not saying it isn't important. Obviously, it's common sense that the harder you're able to hit the ball consistently, the more likely you are to have a favourable outcome as a hitter. I'm just saying that the results weren't in the same meeting as this metric was at the start of the season cause none of this helped the Jays at all in 2018.

Of course it helped. It's just that the pitching, defense and baserunning gave it all back, and then some. Without the hard hits, the Jays are likely worse than Baltimore

Hard hit balls is nice obviously but if you can't hit out of a shift it has less value as well.

I don't think anyone has suggested otherwise

And picking first over all

And picking first over all

Can you pick 1 side to be pissed about instead of being a retard about literally everything?

It's the height of retardation to be upset that they aren't winning, yet also upset that since they're not gonna win they're winning too much to get the #1 pick given how the draft in MLB works. This "logic" demonstrates a complete lack of critical thinking ability, baseball intelligence and common sense.

Who said I'm pissed. If they were worse than Baltimore they'd be slated to be picking 1st overall in 2019. That's just fact. This season is what it is. Not sure what you're getting so upset about though. Be better than name calling. Everything that could've gone wrong this season, pretty much did.

I think what John is trying to say is that you're really f***ing annoying and there's a chance you've found a way to transmit carcinogens through monitors everywhere.

I get pessimism but holy f*** man, you whine about literally everything.

Where are we on that chart for total hits compared to the other teams?

i.e We hit the most % of hard hits out of all out of our hits (100). Boston is second at 38% but they have 150 hits? Or is it all pretty much even?

This is why I think this team could be a WC contender as early as next year. This FO clearly knows what it's doing.

Well if you look at wrc+ which is better than looking at total hits... Jays are 9th in the MLB with +101. Best is Houston with 112, the Yankees, sox, athletics, Dodgers, Rays, Indians, angels, Jays and Cubs.

But, if you want hits, they are 20th with 1235.

Thanks, I appreciate it!

I see Alford can be called up to the show. Only 40-man who isn't up is Pompey.

Pompey is done as a Jay, isn't he?

Alford still is one of our top prospects, despite having a s***** year.

FA aside, who do you like to be starting in the OF come April, 2019?

For me, currently, it's McKinney, Alford and Grichuk. Hernandez 4th OF/DH.

I would try like f*** to try Morales and Pillar this off-season. If Morales is traded, maybe Pompey 4th OF and that way Hernandez can DH, emergency OF.

Are we trying to catch the Orioles?

Neither Pompey or Alford getting a September call suggests they aren't in the immediate plans for the 25 man to open next year. Pompey probably gets DFA and only stays if he clears waivers. Alford stays at AAA to rebound from this year, and potentially gets a call up mid season.

I think we'll probably acquire a veteran on a short term contract. Smith Jr could also be a candidate for additional outfield depth if Pillar is traded / Hernandez becomes a part time DH.

Why would we acquire a veteran OF.. I disagree with this philosophy with regards to position players.. We know next year we will not be a playoff team- unless we pull an Atlanta Braves.. We need to give our young guys playing time and let them progress or cut bait. All we do with a veteran is create a log jam.. I for one am not going to go pay to see some Curtis Granderson type in the OF. I would be interested in seeing Alford, Davis, Grichuk etc..

We also have "Veterans" on the position player side we wont be able to get rid off. Morales, Martin, Tulo etc can mentor the young bucks. We also still have Pillar, he is now a veteran OF...

Yes you can. The ability to hit a ball hard is not a God given talent, it can definitely be taught.

Exit velocity is a result. You can't teach results. You can only hope to teach the skills that go into producing those results

Arguing semantics aside that was clearly his point
