Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 Meh. I don’t want every spot after Stroman being a massive question mark. I see value in being respectable as the kids start breaking in, and even someone like Happ would be a big help with that. I would say Stroman and Sanchez are more of a question mark than Borucki based on the past two years. I have zero confidence them (Sanchez and Stroman) being consistent performers or not injured.
tercet Verified Member Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 Eovaldi, Harvey, Pomenranz I guess are among the cheap veterans we could get on a 1/2yr deal probably? SRF isn't a lock he still has plenty of red flags, maybe Sanchez might even be non-tendered? But I don't think we are going to be any good next year, were going to win 65-75 games, Atkins pretty much confirmed that today as well.

If he sucks, non-tender him after 2019.
tercet Verified Member Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 But why pay him 3.5-4million to be a meh reliever? He is still probably gonna walk the world, get destroyed by lefties, and occasionally get some ground balls.

tercet Verified Member Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 Sanchez is 26, with nearly 450IP under his belt it's safe to say he is what he is at this point.. "Dominant" relievers dont -Have splits like him -Walk 3.8 bb/9 -Strikeout 7 k/9

"Dominant" relievers dont -Have splits like him -Walk 3.8 bb/9 -Strikeout 7 k/9 Those numbers are mostly as a starter. Coming out of the bullpen he'll add a couple of mph to the fastball and if he can regain the cutter he'll be fine against LHH. If not the fallback is a ROOGY for a year btw i advocated trading Sanchez after his 2016 season, as a sell high move

There is no chance that Sanchez gets non-tendered unless his arm literally falls off in the off season... He might get $4-6M or so in arb, and if you really didn't want him (for some reason) you could easily move that kinda potential on that salary for something of value.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 So how would everyone rate shark is draft record the last three years
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 So how would everyone rate shark is draft record the last three years Nothing wrong with his drafting so far
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 So how would everyone rate shark is draft record the last three years It's really hard to say at this point. Bichette looks to have saved an otherwise weak 2016 draft. Zeuch is doing alright, but there were better picks to be made. Biggio has the potential to do some good in the majors. I'd give them a B at this point in time for 2016.

bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 Why does stroman have the same exact approach game in game out
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 Why does stroman have the same exact approach game in game out Because he's stubborn
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 Why does stroman have the same exact approach game in game out I think the more pertinent question is why he has the same approach every game when it clearly isn't working.

43211234 Verified Member Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 (edited) I was a bit bored so I was going over just how terrible the Blue Jays have been at drafting and developing position players. Excluding Kevin Pillar, the best season by WAR for a homegrown position player who entered the system from 2005-2018 is Ryan Goins' 1.3 win season in 2015. That's followed by: Travis Snider with 1.2 WAR in 2010 JP Arencibia 1.2 WAR in 2012 Eric Thames 0.6 WAR in 2011 Danny Jansen 0.6 WAR in 2018 JPA had a 0.6 WAR season in 2011 And that is followed by.... Moises Sierra with 0.4 WAR in 35 games in 2013! That's right. Moises Sierra has the 7th best season for homegrown position players not named Kevin Pillar who entered the system since 2005. Cheavez Young is looking good down in Lansing. Palacios was doing well in Dunedin before getting promoted. Neither of those two are gonna be that good. But future role player isn't out of the question.
BTS Community Moderator Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 The 2016 draft looks pretty solid: - T.J. Zeuch looks like a future back-end starter - Bo Bichette is a top-20 prospect - Cavan Biggio just had a monster season in AA and looks to have MLB potential - J.B. Woodman was turned into 5 years of Aledmys Diaz - Jared Carkuff was used in the Solarte trade - Chavez Young, Josh Palacios, and even Josh Winckowski look a bit interesting

He's had a great season for Vancouver. Getting strikeouts, showing good control and getting groundballs. And he only turned 20 in June.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2018 Author Posted September 4, 2018 Smith Jr, Urena and Pompey to follow? Unless they’ve completely given up on Pompey (it’d be quite a lot of outfielders if Smith Jr joins Davis).
