Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 If one young player "represents the Jays future", do you suppose maybe it's that Guerrero kid? Reid-Foley is arguably not even a top 5 prospect for us lol.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 Reid-Foley is arguably not even a top 5 prospect for us lol. I think he was 10th lol, so quite a bit down from that. Of be more than happy with a #3/4 ceiling for him. I'll hang my hat Pardinho and Pearson as our hopeful elite pitching prospects.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 If Reid Foley represents Jays future they are in big trouble Burn him at the stake and relocate the franchise. His career is over and the Jays have no hope.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 Hopefully we only have one of those guys on the team at a time. No way Stroman survives to see Pardinho. Stroman might already be gone if he was pitching well this season.

There's a chance Stro may have thrown his last pitch as a Blue Jay depending on how this blister thing goes the remainder of the season.

Trading players at the nadir of their career is usually a fantastic idea. Sure, we could keep Stroman but why do that when we can trade him for basically nothing?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 Yeah no way the Jays trade Stro now given the type of season he's had. Maybe trade deadline 2019 at the earliest.

Sure, we could keep Stroman but why do that when we can trade him for basically nothing? They already did that with Osuna. They're looking to do that with Donaldson (yes, he's gonna be a FA but they f***ed that whole thing up), and it's already been speculated that the Jays area open to trading Stroman right now. Bad idea or not, this is what the reality seems to be.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 All three were/are at their lowest value. JD was held on too long but he’s only being moved now because of his FA status. If he had two years left like Stro then they’d wait until his value increased. Osuna was moved for entirely different reasons.

Damn, we waited until he was nearing FA! So stupid!
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 Remember last offseason I kept posting that JD should be traded now. And one of the reasons I gave was his injury risk? It's too f'ing bad Jays could not capitalize on his excellent 2nd half last season.

Damn, we waited until he was nearing FA! So stupid! No one is saying the situations are the same. I'm not even saying that Stroman should be moved now. s***, 80% of the board didn't want Osuna moved cause his value was at its lowest point...but it happened. It's been reported on multiple occasions that the Jays are listening on Stroman...so ya, there's a chance he's gonna get moved. I'm guessing it's partially a PK Subban scenario where they're just tired of him. JD should've been moved cause everyone and their mother knew the core was old and was going to crash and crash hard a couple of years ago. Would it have been a hard sell to the casuals? Probably. But it would've been the right move. So no, I'm not saying trade Stroman now if you're talking about maximizing your value...I'm just saying that it sounds like these discussions are happening.

Osuna was moved because he allegedly beat up a woman and there were legal (and SJW) reasons for it. The Jays didn't sell low because they felt like it. They did it for reasons beyond their control. If JD was healthy this season we wouldn't be having this conversation. They tried to contend for a WC spot, it failed, and JD got hurt. JD should have been moved prior to the season but they aren't looking to move him now because they want to get rid of him. It's because he's a FA at the end of the year. The pattern of selling low in this case is either out of the front office control or just the circumstances of years of control. Stroman has no relation to either of those things so I don't think there's any reason to worry about it now.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 Article on the Score quoting Davidi is saying Jays may not give the qualifying offer to JD. Is payroll going to hit JP Ricciardi levels in 2019? Why the hell wouldn’t they give him the QO? Unless he’s turned into 2013 Josh Johnson (FUBAR) that makes no sense.

Yeah the QO seems to make sense for both sides unless JD’s health is now Tulo like. If payroll needs to be slashed then we could just fill out the rotation with prospects / cheap veterans to replace the $34m Happ / Estrada / Garcia payroll that we started this year with.
tercet Verified Member Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 Good bye SRF, I guess Roy Halladay's 2000 season record won't be broken this year.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 That worked out real great for us lol Exactly. As much as Stroman annoys me, selling him for 50 cents on the dollar is not a smart move. I still want him moved, but only after he regains his value.
Mark Verified Member Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 Hello all. New to the forum. Go gentle. Barker makes an interesting point. You need someone to hit behind Vladdy that's got a similarly fearsome bat. Like the Acuna/Freeman twin-bill for the Braves. Otherwise the rookie's not going to get pitched to, and could be prone to swinging at pitches he shouldn't to avoid the constant walks. That said, one of Vladdy's strengths is how selective he is. So who is that for the Jays? It's an argument to keep Donaldson around for another year...

He can probably hit anything so it doesn't matter 6) Teoscar "The Mirage" Hernandez is going to break out like JD Martinez any day now 7) Billy McKinney has all the looks of a Justin Upton type hitter
