But he does. Which is why he didn't tear this thing down. He said they're trying to compete because they owe it to the fans. Dogshit.

I mean he didn't do a full tear down no but he prioritised the farm system. He really should have traded Donaldson. But after all the fan success he thought he could stay competitive while rebuilding in the background. Perhaps if we stay healthier it would have worked. I can't fault for him wanting to keep the Franchise relevant when the city was buzzing with excitement. I don't thinking he was pandering to casuals I think he honestly wanted to stay in the mix and honestly the projections looked like we would be in the wild card race going into the season.

Smoak has a $6M no-brainer option for 2019.

Wait it out until after 2019 and re-assess, or try to extend him now?

He's keeping all of the gains from 2017. HR rate is down somewhat but the BB% is up and the overall offense is basically just as good. He will be 32 next year.

OR - trade him now or in the offseason if the return is nice?

He’s cheap so might as well keep him. Anyway no one is going to give up anything significant for a 1B in his thirties.

The market has taken a giant dump on first baseman and DH's. Smoak is a real good hitter but I don't think teams will value him enough to make a trade worthwhile.

You were practically pissing yourself at the prospect of trading Pillar...just cuz....as well. Pretty sure other guys are on that list too.

Pillar, lol. Sorry if I forgot about that scrub.

At that contract though, they might get a decent return.

I say move him. Or we could wait too long again.

What was Santana's story with the Jays a few years ago, did he have a verbal agreement with GM_AA, but then reneged for the Twins?

Anyway, he may be a buy cheap 2-year deal SP for 2019+

Is that when AA was trying to get Bautista and others to defer money to be able to afford him cause Rogers wouldn't chip in any more cash?

105 wRC+ for Kendrys now. That's quite a hot streak he's been on. Still overpaid but at least useful with the bat now.

Good, send him to the Mariners to play CF.

No need to extend him. If he was a FA after this season I'm not even sure he gets more than 2/20.

Rosenthal broke the story, with the support of a few players on record. AA denied it at first, then had it quashed completely.

Jays claimed Oliver Drake off waivers from the Angels, according the their transactions page...

Oh god, his middle name is Gardener.

Odds that he wasn't nicknamed "Olive Garden" as a kid?

I was thinking that even though I’ve seen quite a lot of the Angels this year I hadn’t seen him play for them - after checking we would be his 4th team of the season!

He has not pitched well this year at all... I can't imagine he's here very long, just a warm body until all the trades are done.

Yeah no doubt he won’t be the last short term reliever we see either.

Well, he's got a 3.70 career xFIP.

So he's not a total shitbag.

Y'know what? good K numbers too.. That'll learn me for just clicking the link that sends me to mlb.com's page. He's had atrocious batted ball luck this year, .425 BABIP might be the highest I've ever seen anywhere.

We needed another pitcher who attended an American Military school to replace the one we just DFA'd

Seems like a pretty good pickup to me. As per MLBTR:

but he’s put averaged 9.5 strikeouts per nine innings pitched and has registered a solid 13.7 percent swinging-strike rate. He also comes to Toronto with a brilliant track record in Triple-A, where he’s pitched to a 2.05 ERA with 155 punchouts against 43 walks in 110 innings of work.

Poor Devon Travis, getting benched for Gurribabip and Drury, lolololol

The Jays are being super disrespectful and might as while trade him. Maybe we could get something half decent for him?

What's disrespectful about it? Not that I don't know you're trolling your ass off...

Hes been a good player for a while, and is getting benched for no reason for two guys who has no pedigree of being moderately as good as he has?

He is still an asset in my books despite his crappy start, just seems like poor asset management just to bench him to see if one lottery ticket (Gurribabip) will work.

You mean Diaz? It's just a day off, meat. It's going to happen throughout the year.
