Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2018 Author Posted May 25, 2018 Excellent. He will be a useful piece on future Jays teams. Doubt it, Pompey is out of options next year. Unless he makes the team over Alford, Hernandez and Smith Jr he's not going to be here for the long term.

Unless he makes the team over Alford, Hernandez and Smith Jr he's not going to be here for the long term. Hard to know how this season will play out, but you gotta think Grichuk will be given every opportunity to succeed, Pillar still has CF locked down, Teo has impressed enough to have a starting role as a corner OF. Alford definitely looks like he needs more time in the minors at this point. DSJ could be up as a 4th OF next year, I don't think he's ever really profiled as a starter. Pompey's best chance would be to beat out either DSJ for a bench role or Grichuk for a starter role IMO
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2018 Posted May 25, 2018 IMO he’s more likely to be traded. Pillar, far more likely By the way, I am not pegging Pompey for a starting role, but as a 4th OF, late inning defensive replacement, pinchrunner / basestealer He has some very nice tools useful as a (league min) 4th OF

Run with Pompey, Grichuk and Hernandez as your starters in LF, CF and RF and use DSJ as your 4th OF for the season and see what happens. It's time for Pompey to sink or swim and if he fails at least when he's let go or taken on waivers you're happy you've seen enough to make a safe judgement that he has no future with the team. Toronto would of course need to release Morales and use Granderson and Pearce as DH/OF/1B options off the bench.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 You just described Pompey's ceiling. Nah. Pompey's ceiling is an above average CF, leadoff batter

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 No. you realize he is still only 25, right? and has battled injuries for 2 years?

GodDonaldson Verified Member Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 Why Gibby is refusing to let Oh to close the game.. Oh is a guy who has total of 396 saves in Korea, Japan, and the MLB (277 in Korea, 80 in Japan, and 39 in the MLB. He of course has the lowest ERA in the bullpen right now

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 Is Martin really starting at SS for us today?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 This might be the worst defensive lineup I've ever seen.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 Is Martin really starting at SS for us today? Unfortunately yes f*** you Tulo
TeoscarforMVP Verified Member Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 Haha. Guess they were desperate to get Martin's hot bat in the lineup. I definitely want to see how bad this goes.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 Martin has a great glove but curious to see how the arm and range is. He's 35 years old
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2018 Author Posted May 26, 2018 A bit surprised at this: Well that was a short call up!
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 Martin has a great glove but curious to see how the arm and range is. He's 35 years old Nothing wrong with his arm. Range maybe... but his arm is as good as it's ever been
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 Martin has a great glove but curious to see how the arm and range is. He's 35 years old I'm more concerned about the DP. Also, with Jaime the Phillies are starting an almost entirely RH lineup, which will likely mean a lot of balls being pulled to SS and 3B.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 Nothing wrong with his arm. Range maybe... but his arm is as good as it's ever been His throws from behind the plate have been pretty bad this year. Throws from SS are completely different though.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 Is Martin really starting at SS for us today? I figure Solarte at SS and Travis at 2B would be 20000000% better but we shall see
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 Axford with a winner here.... Posted above, broski.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2018 Posted May 27, 2018 I figure Solarte at SS and Travis at 2B would be 20000000% better but we shall see Solarte is too out of shape to play SS it appears. He'll be a bad influence on Vlad - buffet for days
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2018 Posted May 27, 2018 Solarte is one of the slowest players on the team. Only Smoak and Morales are slower in sprint speed.
