I noticed that a few days ago, explained why there was a few "I'm new here posts" and Maico posting after his hiatus.

I'm retired now.

Ok, let me clarify and say last two months vs whole second half. Regardless, it was not a good entire year.

August: .240/.307/.481 with 6 home runs in 26 games.

September: .183/.315/.323 with 2 home runs in 27 games.

Raw counting/rate stats don't tell the whole story. He still walked, still didn't strike out, and as Boxcar mentioned, his babip took a nosedive which may just be SSS noise. His power output dipped, but I don't think Smoak is in danger of putting up a .140 ISO for any meaningful length if time.

If I recall correctly he missed some games towards the end of August with a leg injury, and probably played through it the rest of the year which could be partially to blame.

Yeah, it was his knees, noted, last year. He talked about it a week or so ago...

Blue Jays re-assigned RHPs Deck McGuire, Al Alburquerque, Rhiner Cruz, and Luis Santos, and LHP Chad Girodo to minor league camp.

Interesting. Hoping Deck gets the BP call 1st if someone struggles. He's looked really good.

Coming down to the wire for Mayza.

That forum has retired... Joe Carer's the GOAT! *clutch*

I don't think hes the GOAT. I sure remember having high expectations when he came up to bat though.

I really think that Fernandez may have been one of my all time favourites. Now he could play the game.

How about you.////////

If you only count the rotation as the first 5, then 10th is too low IMO. If you take into account depth then it’s fair.

I dont know how many people here listen to baseball central, but I am a big fan of Barker and Blair.

They did a great opening show yesterday, talking about the offensive issues this team will face.

It was a breath of fresh hair listening to Barker criticize the front office on how the offensive issues were not addressed.

You can get that hot take on FB or Sportsnet. There's nothing interesting about getting more of that on my morning radio show. I would rather intelligent conversation about win projections and why you shouldn't write-off the team in spring training.

Love Brunt... sheeeit love Gibby! <3

Man, I can't believe there was ever a time that I disliked Gibby. The guy is a f***ing legend. I think is a critically underrated manager and he's only getting better.

I think these seasons with Shatkins at the helm have revealed that Gibby takes a large amount of direction from the FO, which is good...when you have a good FO. Now that we do, Gibby's decision making, bullpen usage and lineup construction are all improving and the team seems to really like him. Laid back and hilarious but when push comes to shove, he doesn't take any s***.

Yup. His 2015 managing was so horrendous it made me want to vomit, but the moment the new front office came in, he's been a lot better. He's basically our Clint Hurdle. Old school dude who listens to the front office and is not so set in his ways that he can't change. His 2016-17 work has been his best.

And I remember how much you hated him, lol. It's good on you to completely turn that around based on what you've seen of him the last couple of years. I really can't think of a manager in baseball I'd rather have than Gibby.

I can't wait for Gibby to take his rightful place on the Level of Excellence. Blue Jays legend.

Lol yes I couldn't stand him in 2015. That year was so frustrating in the first half given how bad I thought his managing was. It's amazing what happens when you remove AA and put in Shapiro/Atkins. Props to Gibby for being able to adjust his managing. Lord knows if Shapiro tried to work with Cito, it would have ended a lot differently.

And yet, this f***ing stupid fanbase is incapable of appreciating what we have. We hit the goddamn jackpot.

I wonder if John Gibbons can catch Cito Gaston for the franchise's all-time wins and games managed records? He's currently 555-541. That puts him 632 games and 337 wins behind Gaston. He needs to last another 4 seasons.

??

John Gibbons has managed about 9 seasons, Gaston did 10+.

John Gibbons is 720-700, Gaston is 894-837.

By my calculation Gibbons will take over top spot before All Star Break 2019. (Yes. I realize that means he'll have to manage at a aproximately .700 winning percentage to achieve that goal... but as others point out he is a legend, he can do it. The Jays can do it. That fat kid will be up before long (sooner than you think) and help Gibbons to this goal).
