Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 Chris Archer alone puts the Rays' pitching staff over the Orioles'. Even including Cobb, that rotation is mediocre. Cobb Gausman Bundy Cashner Garbage Not one starter projected to have an ERA/FIP under 4 by Steamer.
CraigG Verified Member Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 To me as long as he's healthy I couldn't care less about his ST stats. I guess that's what you're wondering as well. Just worried he's masking an injury. He's ST playing time might suggest that is possible.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 Well apparently the Jays are trying to find a way to not start the season off like hot s*** so maybe resting JD more and not rushing Tulo back are part of a greater plan.

SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 Serious hypothetical question... Are the 2018 Jays better with Tulo/Morales or Bichette/Vlad? It won't and shouldn't happen. But I wonder what the differences would be.

But I wonder what the differences would be. I think Vlad would definitely be better than Morales. Tulo when he is playing might be better than Bichette, as I don't think he's ready on D.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 I think Vlad is close to being ready. I don't think Bichette is quite there yet and needs at least one more minor league season. I think Vladdy could hold his own but I think Bichette would start strong, but as soon as he hit his first slump I feel like it would snowball from there. He doesn't have the plate discipline that Vladdy has right now and I think that would get exposed and I'm not sure he has the tools to adjust quite yet. Just my opinion.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 No need to rush them when we can manipulate sevice time to our benefit. That's a given. I think he was just focusing on a strictly talent standpoint...how close are the 2 youngsters to the 2 vets in terms of potential impact as it stands, TODAY.

Before ST I thought zero chance we see either in the majors before Sept 2019 Now I see it could be sooner for sure They could both absolutely destroy AA this year It's been awesome to get to see them on TV a few times (and in person for a game) Edited March 23, 2018 by G-Snarls

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 (edited) Vlad = 2019 starting 3B? Very unlikely Only if: 1. Donaldson walks 2. Vlad's bat is clearly ready and they're OK starting his service clock at the start of next season (if they call him up in September 2018 for some at bats then this won't be an issue I suppose 3. His defense solidifies at 3B in AA/AAA this year and they don't move him to 1B/LF Edited March 23, 2018 by G-Snarls
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 No need to rush them when we can manipulate sevice time to our benefit. Not to mention that neither have even played AA ball yet and haven't faced any real pitching talent in the spring. To me the only interesting question left for them this spring will be if they start in AA or Advanced A again.
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 No need to rush them when we can manipulate sevice time to our benefit. There is no way I'd call them up until June, 2019. And only if they could impact a young squad with a real shot at something. It was a hypothetical. I think Vlad and Bo would be a huge upgrade NOW over Morales and Tulo. Mostly because I don't think Tulo plays this year and Morales runs like my grandma. And she's dead.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 Before ST I thought zero chance we see either in the majors before Sept 2019 They'll be up to stay next Spring after service time bullshitting. Maybe Sept call-ups this year.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 Bo's swing is looking a lot like Donaldson these days. Oppo taco off a closer with elite stuff, that's legit. http://www.mlb.com/images/8/5/6/269443856/Bichette_Swing_med.gif
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 what is obvious with him and Vlad is the elite bat-speed. Just so quick to the ball. Was (looked like) an ugly night for Bo other then that jack, with 3 K's, but he's got a lot of developing yet to do in AAA. I'm super excited. Can't teach bat speed like that.

Donaldson long term, dump Morales, have them both spit time at 3B and DH, saves Donaldson's legs some and gets Vlad good development with one of the top 3B
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 I could see Vlad as starting 3B in 2019 if there is a backlash for losing JD and the team does it for optics reasons. Otherwise, I'd say Solarte will cover the spot for a bit, and then Vlad comes up mid-2019. Bichette is more unpredictable since he's not as good of a prospect as Vlad is (which isn't a knock). He might be half a season behind Vlad in development, but we won't really know until they start playing in AA/AAA.

I can't imagine this FO is going to made decisions regarding their generational talent based on optics and the casual fan base.

THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 According to TSN, Bichette and Vladdy will start in AA, and Pearson in Dunedin. Awesome. Less conservative than I expected, especially with Pearson, who could really fly this season. Imagine if all 3 of them are in AAA by year's end? The fapping would be unreal lol.

He is advanced, but I don't doubt there is a lot of work to be done refining his pitch arsenal. Also need to see how he fares multiple times facing the same team.

Refining can be done at any level though. If he is dominating he can do that at AAA easily
