Syndergaard then? What we do know is AA is not done, far from it. He makes for a more exciting off season thats for sure

I'm sure there is a big part of him that would love to re-acquire Syndergaard and close the loop on his worst career trade. He could (IMO) easily get it too too if he's willing to trade one of his pitching prospects (Soroka, Wright, or Anderson) + Pache + Riley. Atlanta has got to be a frontrunner for Thor at this point.

Yes AA has surplus pieces to spare, to get anyone in baseball, even Trout, and still have a horde of high value controllable assets. Pretty hard to f*** it up, but its AA so who knows.

JD close to deal with the Braves according to Rosey.

Damn, the Sportsnet comments section is going to be more of a cesspool than usual after this.

AA is a gambler, He knows what it takes to try and win it all which is the job of any good GM. On a 1 year deal it's worth a gamble.

Too bad the Jays don't have a GM that tries to win it all every year, Jay fans get, we have to build a foundation before we spend money.

Hmmm i thought Atkins had a pretty good foundation when he got here and has done nothing to improve the product on the field at the MLB level since his arrival. Jays have only gotten worse over the last 2 years and have loss players for nothing in return.

Now they try and sell a total rebuild based on draft picks only and i find it very funny all their hopes are based mainly on a player AA signed when he was GM of the Jays.

Really interesting that his camp jumped on a pillow contract so quickly (relative to the market development).

Looks like he knew no team was going to give him more than a year so he jumped on the highest one year offer. Worked out pretty well for him. Gets the same salary as last season despite missing most of the year. Problem for him is that even if he has a great 2019, he will hit next year's market at age 34. His chances of making big money long term is probably gone.

I just really don't believe in what the Braves already have. They had zero offensive injuries last year (Freeman, Albies, Inciarte and Markakis all had over 675 PA's). Every pitcher out-performed their FIP and especially xFIP. They killed their division and were 4 games under .500 and like negative 30 runs against the rest of baseball. Acuna is a monster and they benefit from a full season from him. Freeman is Freeman and is always Freeman. Albies and JD are the wildcards. Albies could be the 70 wRC+ guy that he was after July 1st or could be the 6 win player he was on pace for.

But with that said unless the Phillies go out and get a boatload they are still better than everyone in the NL East, although I expect a bounce back from Washington.

In the end when Atlanta opens the over/under at 89.5 bet the s*** out of the under.

That's a really nice deal for the Braves. I'm jealous they got a star level talent on such a short term. Just goes to show that we could have offered him a QO and shouldn't have worried if he accepted it. It's kind of the perfect fit for them, considering their contention window and payroll flexibility. Albies-Acuna-Freeman-Donaldson is going to be a savage top of the order.

Yeah we could have...but Merryweather is more valuable than a comp pick, so not sure why you're going down that rabbit hole.

Braves strength will be the pitching, though. They are headed back to the days when they had 3 or 4 aces.

Are they trading for them?

Probably owns some Braves pitchers in fantasy. Only time he ever gets excited about non Jays.

It's more likely that a team will never have 3 or 4 aces again.

Braves have to hang onto Riley don't they? He's their only positional prospect and is in line to take over for JD at 3rd in 2020.

Edit - they also have Camargo. I don't know how likely it is that he repeats, but he was great last year. Where are they going to play him in 2019?

Conner Greene is a marvel. 2018 between AA, AAA, and the AzFL:

97.2 innings pitched

75 strikeouts

78 walks

Being on this guy's team would feel like house league baseball when the kid who has never pitched before wants to give it a try

They don't even have a single starter projected at 3 WAR.

Low key shot by JD there.

Clearly there was no way Shatkins was going to give him the QO if there was even a tiny chance he'd come back. I think they just wanted to move on entirely.

I hope George Poulis f***s up while giving him a colonoscopy and it keeps him off the field all season.

How does Matt Moore keep getting guaranteed money?

He made $1M on his buyout too. Left handed and under 30, so Detroit thinks they can fix and flip, a la Fiers

Not sure if this was posted already, but Harold Ramirez (one of the OF we got in the Hutchison trade) got signed by the Marlins. Coming off a year where he slashed .320/.365/.471 in AA. I would've much rather have him on the 40-man than Pompey at this point.

$2M gamble for Detroit. Still only 29 and is a lefty. Maybe he turns into the next Cliff Lee? Doubt it but a very low risk gamble for Detroit.
