Mariners actively shopping Cano and the 5/120 left on his deal. What's he worth at this point? Maybe 60M?

That's a bit pessimistic. He could have a few 3ish WAR years left in him. Say he has 9-10 WAR left in the tank, that's worth at least 80-90 mil.

E: but obviously he'd need to be next to free in that scenario.

Depends how much teams think he’ll be worse when drug free. FWIW he put up 3 WAR in half a season this year.

I could see Cano being moved for an albatross with a shorter length contract like Tulo (but not actually Tulo) and a decent prospect or two. He's still a very good player. He could earn his contract for the next 2-3 seasons but teams won't be paying prospects for him to break even only.

He's entering his age 36 season. Assuming he's finally off the PED's - I mean yikes, run away.

Guys are going to want to wait for Harper and Machado to sign. After that the big names go it is usually a waterfall after that.

That and the Winter meetings.

JD close to deal with the Braves according to Rosey.

Damn, the Sportsnet comments section is going to be more of a cesspool than usual after this.

Ugh, of all the teams, why the Braves? Now we have to hear about the AA-Donaldson connection ad nauseum.

Can't wait for everyone (i.e. Toronto media) to twist this into Shatkins ruining the relationship with Donaldson and Chad hometown hero AA swooping in to save the day for the Braves.

why on earth would you ever submit yourself to that ******** when you have this board?

It was the perfect fit, figured he'd sign there, and at that money also.

I don't anymore. I stopped shortly after Shatkins took over since my head was exploding too often.

I'm just warning everyone else who might catch some of those comments. It will be really bad.

1-year for 23M seems like a lot of money for someone who has been injured the last 2 years... I was thinking somewhere in the 15-16 range.....maybe i am way off base

It's a 1-yr/$23M deal for Donaldson.

Really interesting that his camp jumped on a pillow contract so quickly (relative to the market development).

You're way off base. ;)

Looks like he knew no team was going to give him more than a year so he jumped on the highest one year offer. Worked out pretty well for him. Gets the same salary as last season despite missing most of the year. Problem for him is that even if he has a great 2019, he will hit next year's market at age 34. His chances of making big money long term is probably gone.

That's a really nice deal for the Braves. I'm jealous they got a star level talent on such a short term. Just goes to show that we could have offered him a QO and shouldn't have worried if he accepted it. It's kind of the perfect fit for them, considering their contention window and payroll flexibility. Albies-Acuna-Freeman-Donaldson is going to be a savage top of the order.

If JD was given the QO, there's no guarantee the Braves would have signed him with the value of a lost pick involved.

Then again it's AA who doesn't even sign most of his first round picks, so who knows. He may not have even cared about the pick.

Braves trade Camargo for pitching or keep him as super utility and JD injury insurance? NL East is probably the worst it's ever been. As average as the Braves are, they will compete. So may as well do short-term deals like this for potential marginal improvements.

I suspect they'll keep Camargo as a super-utility or even a MIF starter, especially since Dansby Swanson has proven himself to be very bad at hitting baseballs. Either Albies or Camargo should be adequate at shortstop, assuming they don't pursue Manny Machado.

AA drafted Noah Syndergaard with a comp pick, so I'm sure he is aware of how valuable they can be.

Well they already have Flowers and just signed McCann.

Syndergaard then? What we do know is AA is not done, far from it. He makes for a more exciting off season thats for sure

Don't be surprised if the Braves go hard after Harper. RF is a gaping hole and everything is coalescing for them.

AA isn't afraid to make big moves. Could definitely see the Braves going hard after Harper.
