Laika Community Moderator Posted November 9, 2018 Posted November 9, 2018 I don't believe I've seen this posted... Lance McCullers Jr. had Tommy John surgery this week WTF? Is this true? That's the quietest TJS for a star pitcher that I can remember.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2018 Posted November 9, 2018 WTF Markakis winning the silver slugger. There were like 10 objectively better choices. No WTFs at Martinez winning a SS for a position he barely played? Awards season is so infuriating. Smoak or Cron should have won for AL 1B or even Olson since Abreu missed like a third of the season.

Goes to show how far behind coaches still are.
baseballsss Verified Member Posted November 9, 2018 Posted November 9, 2018 They must have thought they have a legit shot at re signing Harper this off season We'll see To be fair they did offer him a pretty good deal
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 9, 2018 Posted November 9, 2018 WTF? Is this true? That's the quietest TJS for a star pitcher that I can remember. I think the interesting thing about it is that they knew about it before not offering Morton a qualifying offer. I stay the f*** away from him this off-season.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2018 Posted November 9, 2018 To be fair they did offer him a pretty good deal A deal they knew he absolutely wouldn’t take. This is the reaction they wanted from offering him 300M though, so their job is done.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2018 Posted November 9, 2018 It's the Nats. Once Lerner interferes they will be back in play Everyone and their dog knows that Harper isn't signing a deal without one and probably two opt outs. I think almost every team in the league would offer him 10/300M, but they know that won't get it done. It really wasn't a competitive offer at all, especially since he hadn't technically reached free agency yet.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2018 Posted November 9, 2018 Joe Mauer retired Hope he goes into the Hall, he was a hell of a catcher.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2018 Posted November 9, 2018 Joe Mauer retired Hope he goes into the Hall, he was a hell of a catcher. It's an interesting question, because his HoF metrics probably fall short, but not by much. But he was a much better catcher than Yadier Molina, who will no doubt be a hall of famer.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2018 Posted November 10, 2018 Joe Mauer retired Hope he goes into the Hall, he was a hell of a catcher. I think we all saw this coming. Its a tough call. I think his injuries and him moving off from catcher for the last several years might go against him. But from 2005-2013, he was definitely one of the best, if not best catcher in the game.

Harpers hoping to get 400 mil +. I personally think he will fall short and end up in the 325-350 range with two opt outs.

If he put up numbers similar to his MVP year, then I think he would have got 400M easily.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2018 Posted November 10, 2018 Cubs open to trading Bryant! Since we drafted him first, we get first dibs, right?
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2018 Author Posted November 10, 2018 Since we drafted him first, we get first dibs, right? I believe this is how it works, yes.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2018 Posted November 10, 2018 Bryant for Morales. I know it might be an overpay as Morales would light it up for the Cubs as their DH, but I think it's worth the risk.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 Cubs open to trading Bryant! They probably would ask for Vladdy Jr.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 They probably would ask for Vladdy Jr. They would definitely ask for Vladdy Jr AND someone like Bichette.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 They would definitely ask for Vladdy Jr AND someone like Bichette. Doubt that. Given that Bryant and Vlad will probably be pretty close in WAR as it is, throw the years of control on top of that and there's no way the Jays trade just Vlad and unless the Cubs are trolling, no way they ask for Vlad AND Bichette.

Oh the Jays don't do it, I'm just saying that's what the Cubs would almost certainly ask for.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2018 Posted November 12, 2018 According to the latest Bill James Handbook, Hoskins’ minus-24 defensive runs saved was the second-worst number for a left fielder since Sports Info Solutions began tracking the metric in 2003, ahead of only Adam Dunn’s minus-26 in 2007. - Ken Rosenthal Ouch.

Good thing they signed Carlos Santana to block him at 1B. If they didn't believe in Williams or Altherr, they really should have signed a competent OF or 2 and kept Hoskins at 1B.

It was the entire team. Every position they were terrible defensively. Nick Williams needs to be in left if they are going to play him and of course Hoskins needs to be at 1B.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 12, 2018 Posted November 12, 2018 Braves are believed to be inquiring about Bryant...do your thing AA

Really awkward situation there with Santana. Hard to see any other team taking on a 20M AAV first baseman of his talent level; hard to see the Phillies roster construction working out with both Hoskins and Santana starting. The solution might be to Bench Santana!? The trade opportunity is to see if you can get Philly to eat a bunch of money and/or give up a real prospect to move Carlos.
