All four of those Cleveland pitchers with 200 K's were acquired in trades as well. As much as I hate Cleveland for being like the 6th best team in the AL and yet handed a playoff spot because of their division, they've done well with development the last few years.

They are 4th by run differential, just behind the Yanks, and with JD heating up, Cleveland should be seeded 3rd behind Rox and Stros.

Their run differential is +153 against the AL Central, while it is +2 against everyone else.

45-24 against the Central, 41-44 against everyone else.

I wouldn't rate them ahead of Oakland or Tampa, much less BOS/NY/HOU.

You dont think the Indians are better than the tampa bay rays?

Kluber, Ramirez, Lindor, Carrasco, Donaldson, Bauer.......... Can the Rays match one of those players?

A touch surprising actually. Would've thought something like this would've happened in the old era where starters went 350 innings a season.

Yeah but back then no one got strikeouts. Cy Young only reached 200 strikeouts twice for example. When starters were going 300+ innings the K rates were usually less than 5 per 9, with only the truly elite getting a decent number of them.

Orioles notched their 110th loss as the Yankees clinch a playoff spot by winning the game in the 11th inning. Britton pitched a solid inning with 2k for a hold.

Over the course of the 2018 season? Absolutely, I'd rate Tampa better. Tougher schedule and identical records.

If you swapped the Jays and Indians, put the Jays in the Central and Indians in the East, Jays would be division winners and the Indians would be 3rd or 4th. That's how bad the Central is. They have 3 Baltimore's and one team similar to the Jays. It's a wasteland.

yeah its a s***** division, but the rays don't have a caliber player to any of the guys i mentioned above except maybe Snell vs one of the indians SP

The media’s/MLB’s treatment of Mike Trout pretty much since the start of his career has been shameful. They have maybe the best baseball player to ever live, and consistently try to talk themselves into not giving him the attention he deserves.

I don't get it. It's not like he seems like an unlikable guy or a dork or something. There's no good reason why he couldn't be marketed better.

MLB is blaming Trout for that.

"Mike has made decisions on what he wants to do, doesn't want to do, how he wants to spend his free time or not spend his free time," Manfred said in the hours before MLB's All-Star Game at Nationals Park. "I think we could help him make his brand very big. But he has to make a decision to engage. It takes time and effort."

Jon Heyman is saying that Buck Showalter is going to lose his job with the Orioles - an obvious opportunity to swap managers with us!

Haha, I almost would want to see it happen just for the board’s collective meltdown.

Thankfully Shapiro and Atkins are intelligent and would never hire that crusty old moron unless there's a janitorial opening.

But you're right, the meltdown would be incredible.

We could hire him as an evil mascot. In between innings he could run out, steal bases, and kick dirt on the ump's shoes!

The Mariners crew giving big props to Matt Chapman, really nice to hear for a change. Recognized both how good he is as a fielder and as a hitter as well.

2 questions:

1. Has Yelich locked up the NL MVP Award? Looks like he's going to finish with 30/100/100 with a .320 avg and 20+ SB's. He leads NL hitters in WAR by 0.8 and his wRC+ is a sexy 158. What a steal the Brew Crew got.

2. Is Anthony Rendon the most underrated player in baseball? Don't look, but he's 2nd in the NL in WAR (hitters only). He's averaged 5.8 WAR a season in his 4 full seasons in the majors.

Yes to both probably. I'd really like it if deGrom got consideration for the awart but I know that won't happen and would settle with him at least being recognized as the best pitcher in the league, which IMO he clearly has been.

The 20 or so remaining Marlins fans are going to be pretty tired of watching Christian Yellich play like this for 4 more years for someone else. Edited by G-Snarls

They are among the best broadcasters in the game. Probably smarter than half their front office.

Sep 25, 2018

DETROIT (AP) A 20-year-old food service worker at Comerica Park in Detroit has been charged after a video was posted online that appeared to show him spitting on a pizza intended for customers during a Major League Baseball game.

The video appeared on Instagram over the weekend . Officials determined the video was recorded Friday, when the Detroit Tigers were hosting the Kansas City Royals. Kerley was arrested Sunday and was fired.

His bond was set at 10 percent of $100,000. He also must be tested for infectious diseases.

An Oct. 3 probable cause conference and Oct. 10 preliminary examination are scheduled.

If Dominos did this their pizza might taste better.

Rockies run differentrial: - 9

Dodgers run differential: + 156

How in the world did Colorado manage to stay atop that division for so long...

Good - they don't deserve to make the playoffs.

Only 1.5 out of the wildcard positions though - all that money they spent on the bullpen might pay off in the playoffs!

The Rockies are now in the second wildcard position after 5 wins in a row. 5 games left, all home games against non playoff teams.

Most of the playoff positions in the NL are going right down to the wire, much closer than in the AL!

Yeah the position changes nearly every day. The Rockies and the Dodgers could easily miss the playoffs entirely, or win their division. Would not be a surprise if at least one tiebreaker game is needed with teams finishing on identical records.

Ohtani will have Tommy John surgery after the season is over

Looking on the bright side a full season of Ohtani at DH with no post pitching offdays needed is exciting. The Angels could really do with releasing Pujols and eating his contract to free up a roster spot.
