Hosmer is a shell of his best days, watching the Mets/Pods series

i guess it's worth it to be stuck there for the rest of your career.... i wouldn't want that....

Preller really needs to be fired.

Padres fans seem to think that trading for an ace is a good idea.

I guess those people and Preller deserve each other

I mean if they can do it without trading Tatis, Gore, Urias, or Mejia, then sure, but I can’t imagine that is possible.

I'd trade Mejia easily, even if my team sucked as bad as the Padres. He's going to be a replacement level 1B.

The fact that the Indians traded him for a non-elite reliever definitely doesn't signal much confidence in his ability to catch.

If they could build the deal around Mejia that doesn't seem so bad.

Is this another attempt to push BTS' buttons? If so, I applaud your subtlety.

Why would I care about Mejia or Hand?

I was trying to understand how Hand could not be classified as an elite reliever

The Padres offseason was hilarious:

- Took on Headley's $13M to acquire Bryan Mitchell. Cut Headley after getting -0.4 fWAR from him, and have received -0.9 fWAR from Mitchell.

- Traded Enyel De Los Santos to rent Galvis for 2018. He's produced 0.4 fWAR for $6.8M.

- Spent $4.3M on two years of Kazuhisa Makita. -0.3 fWAR so far.

- Gave Eric Hosmer $144M, and he's at -0.8 fWAR.

- Traded Solarte for Edward Olivares and Jared Carkuff. Have already released Carkuff and Olivares has a 92 wRC at 22 in A+

Literally everything they touched turned to s***.

TBF money means nothing to the Padres at this stage of their development, and they'd rather lose 90-100 games than win 80. None of the moves you mentioned has made much difference to their long term plan of being competitive in 3 or 4 years after which Hosmer's contract goes down to an affordable $13m a year.

Every move they make is either to acquire young assets, acquire assets that can be flipped / rebuild value then traded, or in the case of Hosmer for "veteran clubhouse leadership". They love Hosmer for helping the younger players, whether that's worth his contract (it obviously isn't!) isn't really relevant right now when they wouldn't be spending money on anything else.

It does look bad though - at some point moves they make have to produce something otherwise they'll be stuck in rebuilding for too long and the front office are going to lose their jobs in a few years.

Cespedes is going ahead with the heel surgery that'll put him out for nearly a year. The Mets seem to have the worst luck!

would you deal deGrom or Thor if you could, as the Mets?

It's not bad luck. It's a lack of communication over and over again. Between players and staff, between medical staff and front office. They need to wipe everyone out...especially the owners. I wonder if Einhorn still wants the majority share.

Same surgery as Tulo, Birds were hoping before the AS break, lol. He had it done in the last week of March, recovery time 8-10 months. Should've told the truth, he isn't coming back this year.

Been watching a lot of Angels lately... Just by happenstance.

I really like the looks of that David Fletcher kid. Looks amazing defensively and has a really nice swing. He has a couple more hits tonight. Just a super accurate cannon of an arm too.

A favourite on the Fringe 5 this year. Looks like he could be a lot like Jose Iglesias or what Miguel Rojas is for the Marlins.

Aaron Judge has a fractured wrist from being hit by a pitch against the Royals earlier this evening. That's a big blow.

Guess they need an outfielder... Granderson's price just went up!

They have a history with Grandy and lefties do well in that stadium. Give us a lottery ticket we should have gotten for Happ.

Granderson makes a lot of sense for them. I definitely see that happening.

Not really, they'll just use Frazier.

He’s hurt too.
